As a nationally accredited program with strong educational component in The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) in Albuquerque investigates any death occurring in New Mexico that is sudden, violent, untimely, unexpected or where a person is found dead and the cause of death is unknown. The OMI, which is a special program within the Department of Pathology in the School of Medicine at the University of New Mexico, determines the cause and manner of death in these cases, and provides formal death certification.
The OMI is looking for candidates for our on-call Field Deputy Medical Investigators (FDMI) in all counties in New Mexico. Our ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, both in writing and verbally. We work in an electronic record keeping system so we are looking for candidates that are adept with computers and Microsoft products. We are looking for someone with the ability to build strong relationships with various stakeholders in the counties such as law enforcement, funeral homes, and transporters. Our ideal candidate will have a strong ethical background and will be able to work independently while still following complex instructions.
