Director of Field Education
The UM-St. Louis School of Social Work invites candidates to apply for the Director of
Field Education position beginning in the Spring 2024. At the School of Social Work, we engage students and faculty in professional

The Director of Field Education oversees
the BSW and MSW field education offices, directly manages the MSW field education program, and serves as an MSW field instructor when
required. The Director of Field also supervises the assistant director of field education, oversees the administrative functions of the BSW
field office during the summer session, and assists with other school administrative activities as needed, such as contributing to the CSWE
accreditation self-study and preparing for the site visit, and writing sections of the School of Social Work’s five-year
review.
Responsibilities
As a non-tenure track (NTT) appointment, the responsibilities of the Director of Field Education are 70%
administration, 20% teaching (field seminars and one 3-credit course each year), and 10% service. You will develop and implement field
placement policies; identify, approve and monitor over 400 field placement sites and 1,200 supervisors; advise students on field placement;
facilitate practicum planning workshops; review and approve student learning agreements; consult with students, field instructors, and
faculty advisors on field placement issues; facilitate the foundation field seminar; teach courses and serve as the field faculty liaison to
foundation MSW students. You will also play a crucial role in the Social Work Collaborative Field Education Project, a partnership among
four local Schools of Social Work. Activities include field instructor orientation, training, and organizing joint field site data, approval
forms, and coordinating project initiatives.
