What you’ll do
In this role, you’ll craft next generation payloads using on-board processing architectures for communication and sensing and provide rapid prototype environment for proof of concept. You’ll act as a subject matter expert with customers and provide program leadership in a multi-discipline team of electrical, mechanical, software/firmware, security, network and operations engineers.
The day-to-day
The successful candidate will guide and participate in technology roadmap decisions, lead system analysis for feasibility and applicability of space based solutions, including both communications and sensing paradigms, work with the broader Viasat teams to align technologies with both commercial and government applications and support business development through relationships with vendors and customers
What you’ll need
- 20+ years’ experience with space vehicle or payload concept and design experience
- Experience with digital/regenerative communication payloads
- Experience crafting, developing, and fielding satellites, payloads, communication subsystems, and TT&C data networks
- Proven experience with multiple spacecraft subsystem (e.g., communications, attitude determination and control, power, etc.)
- Knowledge at an architectural level of space systems environments, design methodologies, mechanical design, and packaging
- Bachelor’s degree in Satellite Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- U.S. Government Position. U.S. Citizenship Required
- Active DoD Top Secret Clearance or ability to obtain when administratively feasible
- Up to 10% of domestic travel

- Strong analytic/mathematics background with experience in system modeling, simulation, and analysis Experience with orbital analysis and spacecraft simulation using commercial products (STK, Matlab, etc..) or custom-developed tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven customer engagement skills
- Experience planning and conducting mission operations for satellite missions
Salary range
$171,000.00 – $297,400.00 / annually

Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
