Job Summary
Involves the provision of integrated and accessible primary and specialty patient care services in a clinic or center environment. Care is provided by clinicians and assistants who are accountable for addressing a large majority of personal health care needs and developing a sustainable partnership with patients. Ensures optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in healthcare clinics or centers. Promotes shared decision-making at all levels to ensure a shared voice in practices, exchange of ideas, enhanced communication, and continually improved patient services. Management levels may also be responsible for clinic operations. (Note, when primary focus is clinical operations, see Ambulatory Administration job function.)

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% – 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description
The clinical component of CTSI, Clinical Research Services (CRS) integrates the activities of multiple clinical research sites that provide adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatient clinical services to support the translation of promising clinical research ideas into successful protocols. CRS provides an array of core research services such as adult and pediatric nursing services, phlebotomy, and biospecimen processing.

Supervises staff involved in providing interdisciplinary clinical / nursing care at a clinic and / or center, such as RDA, RDH, RNs, LVNs, etc. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in assigned clinic(s) and serves as a role model. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources.
UCSF’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s (CTSI) Clinical Research Services Unit (CRS) is recruiting for an Assistant Director of Nursing position to join their team whose mission is to provide high quality clinical research support to UCSF study teams. Notable responsibilities for the Assistant Director is the supervision and development of clinical research staff consisting of research nurses and hospital assistants at CRS’ Parnassus and San Francisco Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center (SFVAMC) sites. Reporting to the Director of Nursing and Administration, the Assistant Director will manage clinical research activities at CRS’ Parnassus and SFVAMC locations, which includes oversight of the implementation of IRB approved federally and industry funded protocols. This position requires professional nursing knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to effectively communicate and interface with principal investigators, members of the clinical research community and with UCSF and SFVA medical center representatives and leadership. The Assistant Nursing Director will also contribute to the CTSI’s ongoing diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism initiatives.
