DESCRIPTION
Under direct supervision, stands underway navigational watches and security watches in port. Performs cleaning and maintenance duties. Performs deck duties requiring acquired seamanship skills.
Must possess:
U.S. Passport
U.S. Coast Guard Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW95).
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) issued by Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Merchant Mariners Document (MMD) or Credential (MMC) with Able Seaman endorsement. Other endorsements may be required.
Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD).
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated knowledge of standard navigation and ship handling techniques. Demonstrated ability to perform as qualified helmsman.
Demonstrated knowledge of deployment, recovery and operation of small boats.
Working knowledge of math calculations.
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with diverse ship board personnel.
Working knowledge of requirements for maintaining inventory of deck stores and supplies for vessels.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with emergency methods and practices, drills and training.
Working knowledge of and familiarity with federal regulations relevant to maritime operations and international regulations.
Proficiency in standard office software applications.
Good working knowledge of basic good seamanship practices (knots, splices, line-handling, canvas work, rigging/stowing gear, general shipboard maintenance and care, operation of deck equipment and tools, etc.
Experience in standard practices of maintenance and preservation of steel vessels, shipboard deck equipment, and machinery.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $64,937 – $94,586 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $31.10 – $45.30
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
