About This Role:
The Department of Teacher Education invites applications for a tenure-track, faculty position at the assistant level in our Teacher Education Program. The successful candidate will teach face-to-face and online undergraduate and graduate courses in the Educator Preparation Program, with a focus on the Science of Teaching Reading. In addition to teaching, the candidate will maintain an active research and publication agenda; assist in the coordination of the Teacher Education program vision; and fulfill service responsibilities to the department, college, university and profession. The candidate will be expected to work in collaboration with other colleagues in the College of Education and Human Development as well as with our school and community partners.
The Teacher Education Department has joined the 5th Cohort of the University-School Partnerships for the Renewal of Educator Preparation (US PREP), a national coalition comprising of 26 school-university partners with a common mission of attracting, training and retaining high quality, racially diverse teachers for underserved communities across the country. The candidate is expected to actively facilitate the US PREP with our P-12 Partners.
Position Responsibilities:
The successful candidate must provide leadership, coordination, collaboration, and innovation in redesigning the current reading curriculum and instruction coursework to include aligning the new science of teaching reading standards mandated by House Bill 3, passed during the 86th Texas Legislature session. Expertise in literacy assessment, teaching English (language) learners, diverse populations, and familiarity with children’s literature is essential.
