About the Role:
Reporting to Senior Director, Translational Bioinformatics, the Bioinformatics Senior Scientist, will serve as a bioinformatics and computational biology expert on project teams, contributing to the advancement of discovery and preclinical oncology projects and the analysis of translational data from clinical trials. This role will contribute to a culture of scientific excellence, rigorous innovation, collaboration, and teamwork. This individual will have significant experience in the pharmaceutical industry and a track record of scientific impact in utilizing bioinformatic approaches to advance projects through discovery stage and into clinical trials. This individual will be expected to drive the successful execution of projects and contribute study findings, mentor junior scientists, and assist in managing the activities of CRO partners.
Responsibilities Include:
- Collaborate with project leaders to evaluate, develop, implement, and optimize scientific technologies to enhance productivity and efficiency within Oncology R&D.
- Assist and lead junior scientists in experimental/study design, execution, and preparation of data summaries of complex scientific studies.
- Supervise and train junior staff, ensuring safe and productive scientific practices.
- May work as part of a team to develop new intellectual property and co-author patent applications and peer-reviewed publications.
- Demonstrated expertise in analyzing, interpreting, and visualizing scientific data.
- Lead project teams in identifying research approaches, hypotheses to be tested, and program milestones to achieve program objectives via application of computational approaches and tools.
- Investigate and develop new computational approaches and technologies to identify new targets and accelerate oncology drug development.
- Oversee preparation of key findings and present to internal/external stakeholders at scientific meetings and conferences.
- Model SpringWorks Values and exemplify scientific excellence.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
About You: Required Education, Skills, and Experience
- Education: Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related life-sciences field plus 8+ years’ experience, orMaster’s degree in in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related life-sciences field plus 11+ years’ experience.
- Bioinformatics experience in biotech/pharma; ideally, in a drug discovery/development setting.
- Expertise in working on drug discovery and translational research teams in an oncology setting integrating and mining public and proprietary datasets to derive biological insights.
- Demonstrated scientific creativity and productivity using NGS-based genomic data analysis for the identification of biomarkers of drug response, action, and patient stratification.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully execute experiments with knowledge of principles, theories, and practices covering bioinformatics, computational biology, and oncology.
- Significant knowledge and experience in the use of standard commercial and open-source bioinformatics tools and software, including the use of programming tools and environments such as R, Python, Julia, Perl, Linux and web development tools. Experience with high-performance computing and cloud computing platforms is expected.
- Working knowledge and expertise in the application of machine learning to large biological datasets is a plus.
- Expertise in the interpretation, analysis, documentation, and presentation of key findings.
- Ability to communicate technically complicated results effectively within scientifically diverse teams is expected.
- Effective training, mentoring and professional development of more junior staff
- Ability to take initiative and lead other laboratory scientists by example and influence
- Hands-on supervision of computational work and personnel to ensure sound scientific practices
- Effective organizational, interpersonal, communication and managerial skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to communicate technical and cross-functional data to program and department leaders, especially from large and complex datasets
- Proven ability to work on multiple projects, within a fast-paced environment.
- This position must be able to work East Coast hours.
- If position sits remote ability to travel occasionally including overnight stay (<15%).
The expected salary range for this position is $138,000.00 – $182,500.00. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
