Position Summary:
The Department of Education at Rollins College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Education
beginning in August 2023. The colleague who is hired for this position will teach courses on curriculum development, instructional
strategies, and classroom management in elementary and secondary schools. The courses are infused with teaching about literacy practices and
ESOL strategies. They will also supervise students’ field experiences and teach at least one course a year in the college-wide foundations
program. Expertise in teaching content methods courses (e.g., Teaching Social Studies) may be considered. The teaching load will be six
courses annually, which is typically three courses per semester.
Our mission, in line with Rollins College, is to educate students
for global citizenship and responsible leadership. We look for someone who has experience working in diverse educational environments
because we have a program for paraprofessionals who work in low-income schools, and we have a commitment to serve marginalized communities.
The department also maintains a strong global focus and we encourage candidates with an interest in international education to apply.
Applicants who have taught at the college level, have supervised interns and student teachers, and have substantial knowledge of K-12
literacy and ESOL are preferred.
In addition, scholarly publication and service to the profession, the college, and the department
are required. All fulltime faculty members advise students and take leadership roles in the department. The department maintains a
collegial, supportive environment for our students and our own interactions. There is an expectation that the person hired for this position
will serve on collegewide committees at an appropriate time.
