Radar Hardware Engineer Internship

As a member of the Airborne Radar Systems and Techniques group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, you will work on high-performance sensor systems as part of a team with diverse technical backgrounds. We prototype radar and imaging sensors for wide-area surveillance, and work to mature algorithms to detect small objects in challenging environments. Projects typically involve a mix of hardware and software development, as well as algorithm design. Teams work together to understand foundational physical principles, design and build one-of-a-kind sensor systems, architect and execute flight test data collections, develop and integrate novel processing techniques, and explore advanced countermeasures that degrade sensor performance. Staff projects typically partner across the Department of Defense to transition work onto platforms that operate around the globe, and perform impactful and relevant missions.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with experienced engineers to design and develop cutting-edge radar hardware solutions, contributing to enhanced performance and capabilities.
- Gain hands-on experience in the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of radar hardware components and systems.
- Participate in the evaluation of new technologies and components for radar applications.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of radar hardware prototypes.
- Opportunity to work on the integration of hardware components with software systems.
- Present your contributions and findings to your peers.
Qualifications
- Enrollment in a degree program related to Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Interest in radar hardware design, including topics such as RF components, analog/digital circuits, and PCB layout.
- Basic understanding of hardware testing methodologies and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn from experienced engineers.
- Familiarity with CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB design (e.g., Altium, Eagle) is optional but advantageous.
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Passion for innovation and a desire to contribute to the advancement of radar technology.
