The Productivity Engineering (PE) team at LinkedIn is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Tools to help create and implement various tools in line with PE strategy to help cross-functional teams scale the infrastructure and tools required to keep our engineers in step when they are all sharing the same code, building and testing our software stacks, and releasing and deploying their services continuously without compromising site reliability.
This position requires a strong technical understanding of complex IT (information technology) environments, and evolving technologies.
The role requires a high degree of troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Requires the ability to understand how corporate systems are designed and used, then design and build tools and frameworks to automate development, testing, deployment, management, and monitoring of our 24×7 services and products.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the development and maintenance of web services
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical implementation and operational
management.
• Map and align operations monitoring to Services Health to ensure end to end availability of
services and applications.
• Analyze and improve availability, efficiency, capacity, scalability, and performance of PE
services.
• Developing and maintaining cloud acceleration tools.
• Introduce improvements by leveraging automation and innovative approaches.
• Driving your own projects, from design through planning to execution. Also work with
external Technical Project Managers on cross-team initiatives.
Basic Qualifications:
• BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or related practical
experience.
• 2+ years of experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions.
• 2+ years programming experience in object-oriented programming languages such as
Python, Java, JavaScript, Golang and/or C#
• 2+ year experience in software application development or production support
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with IAAS (infrastructure as a service), PAAS (platform as a service)
and SAAS (software as a service) (software as a service) Cloud Technologies as well as
strategic platforms such as Azure etc.
• 5+ year experience in application development
• 2+ years of technical IT experience in the complex technical environments
• Ability to develop, manage and communicate frameworks.
• Experience in standard build tools and version control systems (svn, git, gradle, perforce).
• Experience in an object-oriented language like Python, Java, C#. Python experience is
strongly desired.
• Knowledge of one or more database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, HBase,
Voldemort, Espresso, Cosmos DB).
• Strong knowledge of networking, compute infrastructure and Internet protocols
• Firm analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Energy and passion to invent and create innovative solutions, challenge the status quo,
and drive positive change.
• Strong planning, scheduling, and organization skills.
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to absorb modern technologies and features quickly.
• Familiarity & understanding of public and private cloud architecture.
