The Graduate School of Education and Counseling at Lewis & Clark College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor in Secondary Language Arts. The Secondary Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program at Lewis & Clark is a leader in the field of graduate teacher preparation, with an explicit focus on issues of diversity, equity, and social justice. The faculty provide extensive pedagogical content preparation and research-based models to create a rich educational experience that weaves together theory and practice. Our goal is to prepare teacher candidates to address systemic issues of equity and access in schools, while promoting the academic, emotional, and social success of each student.
Lewis & Clark’s Secondary MAT program is housed within a unique PK-20 social justice-oriented department and aims to develop teachers who: are critically self-reflective; are students of teaching who use inquiry to improve their practice; and who employ inclusive, democratic, and culturally responsive approaches in the classroom. Program faculty and staff are committed to preparing teacher candidates to work effectively in diverse school settings, recognizing the critical intersection of race, culture, gender, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, first language, ability, and other key elements of identity. Teacher candidates learn to investigate and support each child’s unique growth – academic, social, and emotional – as citizens of the world, by creating affirming spaces and equity-focused school systems for P-20 students and their communities.
