Fire Protection Design Engineer
Job Summary:
Provides complete engineering design and support for Fike fire protection systems. The position will work in conjunction with all of the commercial functions in supporting Fike distribution channel’s design needs. In addition, the role will support fire technical services with distributor questions and needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Works with commercial management and regional sales to prioritize strategic initiatives and to manage implementation of comprehensive growth strategies that achieve revenue and profitability goals to drive fire protection sales that conclude from the services provided by the Fike design engineer.
2. Identifies opportunities with new or existing customers to provide design services.
3. Supports commercial opportunities where Fike design services have been requested by customers.
4. Develops and continuously improves reproducible sets of processes, procedures, and deliverables to each customer.
5. Provide complete project design packages utilizing AutoCAD 2D and 3D software, including Inventor and Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3.0 – 3D Solids and Assembly.
6. Conduct site surveys and examine field conditions as required to support development and completion of projects.
7. Interface with customers and office staff by responding to technical questions regarding product applications.
8. Validate all system designs for final submittal.
9. Create CAD drawings and detailed piping flow calculations for the design of commercial clean agent fire suppression systems.
10. Create BOMs for sub-assemblies, identify and update changes to maintain delivery schedule.
11. Perform reviews validating production to verify quality.
12. Builds relationships with key individuals within compliance and standards organizations as well as our customer base in order to continue to monitor the ever evolving changes within codes and standards such as NFPA and IBC.
13. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, seminars, and reviewing professional publications.
14. Identifies and develops best practices with supporting templates and documents to efficiently service Fike customers within the fire protection market segment.
15. Provides detailed written and verbal communication of results along with recommendations of expectations to the customer as well as coordination with the commercial person responsible in order for the technical findings to be presented appropriately.
16. Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, see, sit and, use hands. Must be able to travel domestically and internationally regularly.
Job Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Two or more years of experience in mechanical drafting and design. Proficiency in AutoCAD 2021, Inventor 2017, Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3.0 – 3D Solids, Assembly, and Sheet metal, Microsoft Office Suite. Proven success in leading design and engineering efforts. Experience working with regulatory agencies, certification organizations, and industry groups (i.e. ASME, NFPA). Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning skills. Ability to work collaboratively. Must be able to travel domestically and internationally to meet with customers, distributors/representatives, industry experts, and Fike personnel.
PREFERRED: Knowledge of Fike products and services. NICET certified Fire Protection – Special Hazards Suppression Systems level IV. NICET certified Fire Protection – Fire Alarm Systems level II. NFSA – Sprinkler Layout Technician Training Certification. Fike FM200, Ecaro, and Novec 1230, Certified. Proficiency in Fike Clean Agent Flow Calculation Software, Vesda Aspire Air Sampling Software. Expert knowledge of competitive technology and commercial activity in major global markets.
