Summary:
In 2014, the ASPCA and New York Police Department (NYPD) formed a historic partnership to address the problem of animal cruelty in New York City.In this partnership, the NYPD is the primary responding law enforcement agency for complaints of animal cruelty and the ASPCA is responsible for veterinary forensic examination and medical care of animal victims of cruelty.
The Forensic Sciences Manager supervises two coordinators who are responsible for the non-veterinary aspects of animal cruelty cases.The Manager, coordinators and four forensic veterinarians, comprise the veterinary forensic sciences team.The forensic science team is responsible for forensic evaluations of live and deceased animals and record-keeping/liaising with all departments involved in case management of animal cruelty victims housed at the ASPCA 92ndStreet and 91stStreet facilities.
In addition to managing Forensic Science Coordinators, the Manager, Forensic Sciences will support the department by managing the casework process, criminal case administrative tasks, forensic crime scene logistics and creating certified medical records for court hearings and trials. The manager will be responsible for oversight of forensic facilities and inventory, per-diem support staff, and the forensic veterinary externship and internship programs. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated team leader with an interest in forensic evaluation of animal victims of cruelty and working with individuals in law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

Compensation and Benefits:
Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring rangeis for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience.The expected hiring range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.

Qualifications:
Ability to develop and implement animal care programs, Effective communication and teamwork skills, Excellent communication skills and proven ability to multi-task, Experienced with Salesforce database software, Fear Free Shelter certification is required within 60 days of hire, Knowledge of or interest in learning veterinary medical, medical, law enforcement agency or forensic laboratory protocols and processes, Must provide a valid driver’s license upon hire and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history, Strong computer skills including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
