Role Summary:
• The Manager of Supplier Development is responsible to lead a team of highly skilled Specialists to improve supply chain performance and stability in terms of Delivery, Quality and Sustainability.
• The Manager will also lead a permanent cross-functional steering committee and the assigned resources in defining and proactively monitoring supply chain performance indicators, assessing supply risk, deploying resources to supplier locations, defining and implementing corrective measures, and monitoring the improvement until resolution. The role interacts with Tier-1 suppliers at the top management level (CEO, Regional VP, Plant Director).
Role Responsibilities:
General and Organizational (20%):
• Establish the vision and strategy for achieving business objectives
• Set measureable, achievable and time-bound objectives for Supplier Development teams; assess performance of all team members
• Direct leadership responsibility for a team of approximately 5 team members
• Ensure organizational structure is properly built and equipped to achieve business objectives
• Deliver operational excellence as measured through KPI’s and targets
• Definition of KPIs for performance measurement, monitoring and reporting
• Establishment of leading indicators of supply risk or instability
• Approval of regular KPI progress reports of leading indicators (proactive) and KPI improvement measurement from field deployments at troubled suppliers (reactive)
• Build and maintain a team member culture aligned with Volkswagen’s commitment to integrity
• Work cross-functionally with Volkswagen’s project teams and technical departments to escalate and resolve problems quickly and without impact to production.
Supplier Development – 65%
• Leadership of Standing Steering Committee for Supplier Development (agenda, decision points, follow-up, participants)
• Creation of documents, standards, tools and methods to implement Supplier Development in the US
• Onboarding, training and qualification of all Team Members
• Coordination of supplier assessment visits and field deployment schedule with Supplier Development specialists and cross-functional support members from Quality, Logistics, Engineering, Commodity Purchasing
• Review and critical feedback of assessment findings
• Shaping and final approval of proposed corrective measures and related timing plan for resolution
• Monitoring improvement plans and KPIs to determine exit criteria for field deployments at suppliers
• Reporting KPI dashboard of Production Stability Index to senior management at VWGoA and CHA LLC
Crisis Management – 15%
• Leading onsite risk assessment at supplier locations as VWGoA management representative
• Defining follow-up measures from risk assessment
• Leadership of supplier management escalation meetings (onsite and remote)
• Determine additional measures, escalation chain, executive involvement, extended deployment, etc.
Qualifications:
Years of Experience:
• 10+ Years Professional Experience in the areas of manufacturing, project management, capacity management or comparable positions.
• 3+ Years in a leadership function
Education – Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, manufacturing, finance, engineering
• Or BA / BS with equivalent professional experience in an automotive manufacturing setting
Education – Desired:
• Advanced degree
• International studies

• Demonstrated capability to lead teams with a broad scope of responsibility
• Ability to create strategies to achieve top corporate objectives
• Strong leadership presence with proven ability to lead, motivate and direct an organization
• Strong negotiation, facilitation, and influencing skills with the ability to articulate and present to top management and shape internal expectations
• Deep business knowledge with new product development, manufacturing characteristics, and supply chain management
• Experience working and collaborating with multiple departments to achieve common objectives
• Effective at developing an organization to achieve corporate and departmental targets
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with a positive, solution orientated attitude
• Excellent communication capability; ability to deliver clear direction to the department and suppliers as well as present to top-level executives
• Extensive experience across a broad range of technical, commercial, manufacturing and supply chain topics
• Professional demeanor in high-stress situations
Specialized Skills:
Required:
• Experience in production and manufacturing processes, technology principles and techniques
• Ability to analyze inefficiencies in manufacturing processes, propose improvement measures
• Deep knowledge of automotive quality systems, materials, health & safety guidelines
• Solid understanding of manufacturing equipment and tooling
Desired:
• Prior experience within a Quality Assurance organization of a German-based Tier 1 or OEM
• VDA experience
• Volkswagen Formel Q experience
Work Flexibility:
• Extensive travel within NAR region, often on short notice
