Summary/Objective:
Under limited supervision, leads, supervises, guides, and instructs employees in the Professional Relations Unit of approximately 10 employees. Leads and develops strategic planning efforts and creates/develops communication materials, techniques and/or tools. The Professional Relations Unit recruits, credentials and monitors the performance of all medical provider vendors throughout the state who are approved for participation in SSA’s disability adjudication process. Duties are complex in nature and involve access to confidential information, include document review, vendor management, maintain a working knowledge of medical and current procedural terminology, review of claimant case file information, compilation of information and research, managing and reviewing employee productivity and goal achievement or a similar level of work. This position recommends and implements policies and procedures and has daily interactions with internal and external partners and vendors associated with SSA and the disability adjudication process. Represents program or unit and provides information and assistance to internal and external customers. May be called upon to make formal presentations at internal and external PR or training functions, or community outreach.
Essential Functions:

o Maintains current knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding the
o credentialing of medical providers who provide services to claimants at a
cost to the program and assures compliance with same.
o Recruiting, training, and monitoring of the consultative examination
providers for DAS, ensuring compliance with SSA policy and ensuring quality and timeliness of service.
o Maintains current knowledge of SSA systems used for adjudicating disability claims.
o Actively participate with internal associates and SSA components to provide continuity and quality of service to claimants, vendors, and other DAS units.
o Assure direct customer service to CE vendors in maintaining their schedules,
abiding by SSA physical and clinical requirements, timely scheduling of
appointments and receipt of clinical reports and responding to inquiries as
they arise.
o Provide direct customer service to claimants, adjudicators, and other DDS or
o SSA personnel when inquiries arise.
o Communicate successfully via telephone, Teams meetings and e-mail in
support of internal and external customers.
o Assures examination and interpreter payments to outside vendors are adequate and within the parameters allowed by SSA; makes recommendations for changes of same.
o Provide sufficient guidance to assure timely responses to requests for
interpreter services and identify need for same.
o Review Consultative Evaluation (CE) orders, assistance requests and
disability claims, providing feedback and recommendations to unit staff,
adjudicators, and other DAS personnel or SSA personnel, including assisting components and representatives from the Office of Disability Adjudication
and Review (ODAR).
o Evaluate and monitor unit operational efficiency and recommend changes to
improve.
o Prepares required daily, weekly, monthly reporting and distribute in a timely
manners.
o Oversees DAS CE provider vendor files to ensure files contain correct service information, procedure codes, and scheduling information.
o Aids Accounting Vendor File Maintenance staff to ensure accuracy of
o Medical Evidence of Record (MER) vendor files.
o Directs and reviews work assignments of professional relations officers and
support staff.
o Creates and maintains a high-performance work environment while
maintaining a stable, productive, and engaged work group.
o Retain access and abilities to schedule and reschedule consultative.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience managing professional level staff.
OR
Six years of related professional experience AND Two years managing professional level staff.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the required education and experience, possess one or more of the following:
o At least three (3) years of experience as a disability adjudication officer or professional relations officer or at least two (2) years disability claims processing supervisor experience.
o Management experience
o Experience in/or knowledge of healthcare, medical records, hospital or medical insurance setting
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position supervises and plans the work of assigned staff.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions:
Incumbents working in this job perform duties in an office setting. This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position may involve managing a high-volume workload and demands a high level of accuracy while working with deadlines. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.
Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
