The Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health provides integrated graduate training in scientific research and clinical medicine, leading to a combined MD-PhD degree. The program is designed to prepare students to become physician-scientists, who will make major contributions to the understanding and improvement of human health.
MSTP Graduate Program Manager will work closely with the MSTP faculty director and fellow Graduate Program Manager in the administration of the MSTP and its National Institutes of Health (NIH) training grant. The successful candidate will bring an innovative perspective in the development and implementation of strategies to advance the program.
The Medical Science Training Program is a complex program with approximately 80 students who pursue MD training in SMPH and various PhD programs across campus. Each student’s path through the Program is unique, and this position’s main responsibility is to help provide students the flexibility to define and pursue their unique pathway while maintaining accountability to SMPH, the Graduate School and funding agencies.
The person in this position must show initiative, and outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills. In consultation with Program director, this person will develop objectives, procedures and priorities for the Program; coordinate its overall direction to improve effectiveness and quality; monitor student progress; manage outreach, recruitment and admissions (including coordinating virtual and in-person interviews); schedule and staff committee meetings; coordinate courses taught through the MSTP; track alumni and Program outcomes; administer undergraduate summer program; plan events; and troubleshoot and resolve problems.
Responsibilities:
Manages the administrative activities of graduate degree program(s) and/or certificate(s). Performs activities which may include: recruitment, admissions, new student orientation, academic advising, monitoring of progress towards the degree, course and/or enrollment management, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, funding, course and/or program assessment, and academic program review. May oversee staff and/or graduate program functions.

– Minimum three years of experience working in higher education administration and/or student services
Preferred:
– Experience with NIH training grants
– Experience working with graduate or professional students in admissions, recruitment, advising, or a related function
– Demonstrated ability to manage simultaneous projects, prioritize tasks, work collaboratively, and meet deadlines in a high-paced environment
– Demonstrated ability to learn and use a variety of applications and software programs. (Examples include but are not limited to: Teams, Filemaker Pro, Microsoft Office 365, NIH eRA Commons, myNCBI, and UW system specific systems or equivalent programs: Human Resource System (HRS), Job and Employee Management System (JEMS), e-Reimbursement, Canvas, Student Information System (SIS), and Wisconsin Data Mart (WISER))

This position requires work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location at least three days per week. Up to two days per week may be performed remotely, at an offsite, noncampus work location. This position can be fully onsite if desired.
