Brief Description of Duties
The University of the District of Columbia, College of Arts and
Sciences, Division of Education, Health and Social Work invites applications for a full-time, continuing, nine-month, faculty appointment in
Teacher Education, math concentration, with a target start date of August 2023. The University of the District of Columbia is a public,
comprehensive university with an urban land-grant distinction. It is the District of Columbia’s only public institution of higher education.
It has historically been a minority serving institution. The University services approximately 4,000 students across its two-year
baccalaureate, masters, and professional programs. The Washington metropolitan community provides an exceptional learning laboratory for
faculty, staff, and students. The position is housed in the Division of Education, Health and Social Work (DEHS). Faculty in DEHS engage in
Interprofessional collaboration to enhance their scholarship, service to the community, and learning opportunities for
students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the position include
teaching graduate and undergraduate courses face to face, with possible opportunities for hybrid or online instruction. In addition, this
person may provide supervision and observation feedback to candidates at their student teaching sites. The candidate should have expertise
in providing culturally responsive learning experiences for future math educators. Other duties include serving on division, program,
college, and/or university committees, developing and/or maintaining an active research agenda, working collaboratively with program faculty
and area partners, performing service, administrative, and accreditation related tasks as necessary to enhance the quality of the program,
and performing tasks related to the development of excellence in educator preparation at UDC. The successful candidate will be able to
foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration and work toward continuous improvement as part of a team. The ideal candidate
will demonstrate scholarly engagement, including research that advances the field and elevates the university’s position in broader
contexts, grant writing, publishing and presenting, student advising, outcomes assessment, service to the program, department, college,
University and community. In addition, the candidate must be willing to participate in recruitment activities. In addition, the ideal
candidate should have experience leading innovative math education initiatives and/or providing leadership regarding the future of math
education. Experience with CAEP or NCATE or NCTM SPA reporting is strongly preferred.
