The University of Tennessee’s Career Gateway is looking to fill the temporary assignment of Community Schools Program Assistant with Theory & Practice in Teacher Education. Through temporary assignment placements, Career Gateway allows the opportunity to work with various departments while gaining valuable work experience. Qualifications
The length of assignment is 1 year, the work schedule is 1PM-6:45PM; Monday-Friday, the work location is Pond Gap Elementary, and the pay rate is $18/hour.
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience with 2 years experience working with elementary aged children in a school or after school setting.
Supervises after school program in absence of site coordinator. Assists managing student behavior modeling effective teaching and supervision for young children. Assists and directly communicates with parents and guardians nightly regarding student needs and progress. Serves as a liaison between regular school day teachers, administrators and parents.
Fills in for staff vacancies if necessary as substitute tutor and enrichment teacher providing high quality care, supervision, and education for young children. Assists with oversight of snack and dinner as needed including maintenance of food service reporting logs. Maintains accurate attendance records. Assists with staffing needs including but not limited to logistics surrounding adjustments in daily schedule to accommodate staff vacancies and special programming as needed. Provides guidance and direction to staff regarding best practices in meeting student behavior goals. Supervises coordination, orientation, and placement of volunteers including maintenance of volunteer documents. Contributes to organizing agenda for weekly staff meetings. Supervises afterschool programming in absence of site coordinator. Assist with documentation, monitoring logs and reports including student attendance, mandatory reporting data and progress reports for relevant agencies including Knox County Schools and granting agencies. Collaborates with site coordinator and staff in creation and implementation of daily program schedule. Plans and coordinates family participation events, most often in collaboration with colleagues and site coordinator, in order to strengthen family connections for the children and to foster community in the program among all the families.
Integrates culturally responsive approaches that are inclusive of the children and families in the program. Arranges for field trip logistics including permission slips, buses and contact with agencies and venues.
