The Circulation Services Library Assistant working as a member of the Circulation Services Unit, coordinates the daily operations of full-service branch libraries in support of teaching and research activities for the University. This position, in consultation with the Circulation Services Manager, maintains branch specific procedures, prioritizes work flows, and resolves a variety of problems, appeals, and other patron needs relating to their library experience. This position has extensive knowledge of library practices and procedures; employs advanced problem solving skills, has an attention to detail and the ability to work with the public in a fast paced, demanding, customer service environment. In conjunction with other TRU Service Program members, develops strategies for improving operations, and works with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues with patron accounts or library services. In cooperation with branch librarians, provides first level research assistance to faculty, students and staff in support of learning, teaching and research activities. This position will be assigned 20 hours per week in the Architecture branch library and 20 hours per week at Hesburgh Library or other branch library locations.
Job Duties include:
* Coordinates and executes the day to day operational activities of the Architecture branch library. Creates, evaluates, and updates policies and procedures; coordinating branch services with the centralized functions of the Hesburgh Libraries to improve patron services and operational efficiencies. Interprets library policies to patrons; provides first level research assistance and support for library services such as: circulation, billing, patron accounts, resource delivery, and course reserves. Offers point-of- use instruction; troubleshoots and facilitates the use of electronic resources, equipment, and the use of the library’s online catalog. Hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates Architecture Library student employees who perform circulation, stacks maintenance and resource delivery activities. Monitors the security and physical condition of the Architecture library facility, collections, and equipment. Functions as the primary contact for Library and University departments such as Building Services, Facilities, Campus Security, and Library IT and systems. Coordinates collection maintenance activities with Hesburgh Libraries centralized units such as acquisitions, bindery, cataloging, labeling, and preservation. Provides accurate statistics and reports and updates some aspects of branch web pages.
* Works at any one of four library service desks, Hesburgh, Architecture, Business, or Music, and completes a wide range of customer service transactions related to billing, circulation services, course reserves, document delivery, and interlibrary loan functions. Provides point-of-use assistance with the use of specialized software or hardware and the library’s online catalog and databases. Resolves technology problems to facilitate the use of the library’s electronic products and services. Will provide back up staffing support for branch libraries when needed.
* Participates on library or campus wide committees and teams to further the work of the Hesburgh Libraries’ services portfolio and mission. Evaluates and contributes feedback on technical advancements and upgrades to library systems and applications. Attends and participates in TRU program and Circulation Services unit meetings. Will work on special projects for Circulation Services or other units within TRU Services.

Minimum Qualifications:
* : Associates degree or up to 3 years of college or technical school
* 1 -2 years experience
* Excellent communication, organizational and, problem solving skills required.
* Familiarity and experience with library processes and workflows.
* Ability to work independently in the absence of direct supervision.
* Provides oral and written instructions in a clear and concise manner; works accurately with numbers and complex problems.
* Able to accurately and satisfactorily complete multiple types of customer service interactions.
* Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with library colleagues, supervisor, and the ND community.
