Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit
The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master’s degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities.
Position Summary
The Director of Recruitment and Admissions leads the overall recruitment and admissions initiatives for all School of Nursing degree and certificate programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. As such, the position’s principal functions include developing a comprehensive strategic recruitment plan that is data-driven and aligned with industry best practices for recruiting both undergraduate and graduate students. Additionally, this position will oversee and lead the recruitment efforts for three undergraduates, three graduate, and two specialty programs and direct the work of the staff and faculty engaged in recruitment. The Director will be responsible for developing a seamless undergraduate and graduate admissions and enrollment experience for all applicants, and will ensure high quality service to the students, effective use of admissions technology, developing highly effective application processes, and partnering with Admissions Committee to ensure a fair and confidential selection process for all students.
The Director will be the primary contact for all University departments and external entities as it relates to recruitment and admission and will represent SON at relevant meetings with Undergraduate Admissions and the Graduate School. Additionally, the Director will partner with academic program leads and Marketing to ensure a cohesive experience from prospect to enrolled student in both print and digital marketing.
The Director of Admissions will collect, analyze, and interpret recruitment and admissions data with precision and accuracy, and will be responsible for developing enrollment projections and weekly enrollment reports for the SON leadership.
The Director will supervise two Admissions Coordinators, 2-3 Teaching Assistants, and will serve as a lead for other activities as needed within the Office of Student Affairs.
This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.

At least five years’ work experience in admissions and/or recruitment within higher education, experience supervising staff, and experience advising and counseling students are required. Other position requirements include: superior interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities and deadlines; ability to collaborate with a wide variety of constituents; ability to solve complex problems in a timely manner; ability to gather, synthesize, and interpret data for reporting purposes; a proven ability to manage programs, including planning and resource allocation; and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in all aspects of scope of service.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
