The Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership (TLPL) in the College of Education has a
full-time opening for an Assistant Clinical Professor of Mathematics Education, with an August 2023 start date.

Housed within the College
of Education, the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership (TLPL) is one of three departments that offers undergraduate
and graduate study. The TLPL department has a strong commitment to increasing the diversity of the campus community and contributing to the
climate of inclusivity in the College and University. Our faculty work in strong partnership with local schools (including Anne Arundel,
Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s County, and District of Columbia Public Schools) and the varieties of students to be found in
them, as well as government and non-governmental organizations to support education, access, and equity for all students. 

TLPL
offers three teacher preparation pathways: undergraduate, five-year integrated undergraduate and masters, and one-year masters. Over the
course of our programs, students develop critical knowledge, skills, and teaching practices to become effective teachers in our diverse and
multicultural society. Our programs are committed to socially just and equitable instructional practices as well as increasing the diversity
of the local teacher pool, and helping all teachers teach in culturally responsive and sustaining ways. TLPL also offers a Mathematics
Education M.Ed. aimed at current elementary and middle school teachers looking to become math specialists or take other teacher leader
roles. 

Job Description:

The Assistant Clinical Professor of Mathematics Education will collaborate with
faculty and staff within the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership (TLPL) and the Center for Mathematics Education
(CfME) to plan and teach a range of elementary and middle school mathematics methods and mathematics content courses. Depending on
circumstance and program, these courses may be taught face-to-face, online, or hybrid modalities. The successful candidate might also
coordinate a program, write grant proposals to support programs, and conduct research funded by internal and external grants.

This is
a one-year, full-time, renewable position in TLPL. Applicants should submit a cv, a cover letter describing their interest in and

Minimum Qualifications:

All candidates must have the following prior to appointment:

1. Doctoral degree by August 2023 from an
   accredited university in mathematics education, or a closely related field, with coursework and experience in mathematics education;

2. Strong preparation in elementary and/or middle school mathematics;

3. Evidence of commitment to equity and
   inclusive pedagogies, anti-racist pedagogies, and social justice

4. Experience in teaching, coaching, or mentoring in-service
   and/or pre-service teachers.

5. Experience working with K-12 students and teachers from culturally diverse populations and
   individuals with marginalized and minoritized identities, emergent multilingual learners, and/or students receiving special education
   services.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience as an instructor of mathematics teaching methods
  courses for future teachers.

• Experience developing curricula for in-service or pre-service elementary teacher education,
  and/or leading an instructional team in implementing such curricula.

• Experience working on, and preferably helping to
  coordinate, collaborative math education research projects.

• Experience writing grants proposals or otherwise seeking
  funding for teacher education and/or research projects. 

• Knowledge of the local school systems and/or experience
  developing partnerships with local school districts.

• Because of the nature of this position, we are especially
  interested in candidates with:

• A commitment to urban education and diverse populations, including
  either experience in urban settings or course work in urban education; and

• Experience with helping schools meet the
  mathematics learning needs of multilingual learners, African-American/Black students and/or other historically marginalized students.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for this position can include some combination of: 

• Teaching mathematics education graduate courses in an outreach program that can provide participants with a Master’s of
  Education in Middle Grades Mathematics;

• Teaching mathematics methods courses to teacher candidates seeking certification
  as elementary or middle grades teachers;

• Teaching mathematics courses (offered by the Mathematics Department) for teacher
  candidates. 

• Leadership in the development and improvement of, as well as administrative work and coordination for,
  outreach efforts with elementary and middle school teachers; 

• Leadership of, or participation in, internal or
  external grant proposals; and

• Providing service to the field of mathematics education in our area and across the
  country.

Salary Range/Benefits: $60,000-$75,000 (rate to be adjusted
