Department Description
The Alliance Health Project (AHP) is a community-based LGBTQ+ and HIV-focused clinic located at 1930 Market Street in San Francisco. We provide psychotherapy, substance use counseling, case management, support groups, psychiatry, sexual health services, clinical traineeship, and provider education and training. Our multi-disciplinary staff is a client-centered, collaborative, Harm Reduction-oriented team. We have continued to grow as a community-based clinic by anticipating and addressing the changing needs of our LGBTQ+ and HIV community members for more than 35 years. Our process of continuous improvement of service to our community includes a strong focus on cultural humility and anti-racist service provision.
Since 1988, AHP’s Provider Training and Education Unit has sought to transform the agency’s unique direct service experience into counseling approaches for other providers and to disseminate these approaches in face-to-face and online trainings and publications including newsletters and books. AHP remains the primary developer of HIV test counseling certification curricula in California and the primary trainer of state-funded counseling certification programs. Since 2014, AHP has been a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Capacity-Building Assistance (CBA) Provider, implementing a range of HIV counseling and testing interventions-including training, technical assistance, and information dissemination-for frontline agencies nationwide. Finally, AHP is expanding into non-HIV-related education for providers working with LGBTQ+ communities.
