Position Highlights | This position will perform research activities in Weed Science and agriculture including executing and overseeing greenhouse and field-based research projects centered on Weed Science in arid environments with a specific focus on annual and perennial agronomic crops. The emphasis of the research program is on integrated weed management, herbicide resistance management, herbicides efficacy, and selectivity. The successful candidate will assist in laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments performing routine technical duties related to conducting Weed Science related experiments. This includes duties related to all aspects of crop production and management from planting to harvest, planting weeds, counting weeds, spraying herbicides, assessing herbicide efficacy and crop tolerance, calibrating, and maintaining sprayers, maintaining a chemical pesticide inventory (mostly herbicides), harvesting crops and weed biomass by hand and machine, as well as processing of data for analyses. This job involves towing, unloading, and loading equipment such as tractors, sprayers, and harvesters on trailers and securing the load for safe travel on roads.
Additional job responsibilities include checking the accuracy of the electronic data, order and organize supplies, materials, or equipment, set-up equipment for laboratory experiments or demonstrations, and obtaining a pesticide applicator license from the state of Arizona shortly after beginning work.
