The Department of Mathematics is seeking candidates for the position of Academic Advising Professional I. This position will support undergraduate majors and minors in Mathematics and Statistics & Data Science.
The Academic Advisor is a critical member of the Math Center team, providing service and support to over 500 majors and 600 minors. The Academic Advisor is also a member of a vibrant and diverse group of more than 40 Math Department staff members.
Academic advisors serve as frontline contacts for undergraduate students and help them choose degree programs, select courses, and define/refine their interests, as well as refer students to the appropriate faculty members for details on specific courses and for fuurther discussions of individual reserch and career interests. In addition, they inform students of scholarship and researh opportunities, and provide counsel in response to student concerns. This position will be a primary point of contact for students to receive the most detailed, accurate, and personalized information on how to successfully complete one of the Department’s degree programs. Departmental advisors and play an integral role in the annual New Majors Program, Undergraduate Awards & Poster Session, as well as Orientation programs for new First-Year and Transfer students.
