DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
UC San Diego Housing, Dining and Hospitality provides housing and dining services for approximately 19,000 undergraduate and graduate students and their families in more than 400 buildings, covering nearly 10 million square feet. Consisting of eight divisions, HDH has more than 1,000 career employees, 1,200 to 1,300 student employees, and an annual operating budget greater than $250 million.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under direction of the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager is independently responsible for the operation of a functional area of a Housing, Dining, Hospitality dining unit, retail sales facility, catering operation, and/or food truck. This includes organizing, planning, budget and financial management, staffing, training, computerized systems, equipment and inventory maintenance and security. The incumbent is responsible for innovative leadership and providing a climate of growth for both facility and staff. Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Functions as adviser to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.
Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Administers policies that directly affect subordinate employees. Recommends changes to unit or sub-unit policies and practices. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Management reviews work to measure meeting of objectives. May assist with departmental training initiatives across campus.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of five (5) years in progressive leadership/management roles with a multi-unit retail or dining experience, food service, retail, supervisory responsibilities, or equivalent training and experience.
ServSafe Certification or equivalent certification.
Solid knowledge in food service and sanitation regulations. Demonstrated dining services management experience in varied background and independent decision making responsibility.
Experience preparing and presenting quantity and quality food production.
Strong computer application skills to include food service applications such as point of sale and inventory control software. This includes forecasting of inventory, production, recipe file, access control, time and attendance.
Excellent verbal and written communication in the English language, including active listening, dynamic flexibility, and critical thinking, and ability to multi-task and ensure effective time management.
Solid decision making and reasoning skills, and ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, and perform operations analysis and quality control analysis. Proven knowledge of dining services budget management. To develop and implement methods to control cash, food and labor costs, retail prices, inventory, and equipment.
Strong interpersonal and work supervision skills to provide guidance to other personnel and work effectively with partners on joint projects. Skill in personnel management including knowledge and skill of evaluating, communicating in an effective, straightforward manner, thereby creating a positive climate for maximum employee productivity, growth and development.
Mathematical and cash control skills to accurately complete drawer counts and prepare deposits.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The job offer is contingent on the successful clearance of a background check.
Employees may be required to take off (vacation or temporary layoff) during scheduled operational shutdown periods, such as Christmas, Spring & Summer breaks.
Current State of California driver’s license and clean driving record are required to operate University vehicles.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $43,900 – $91,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $21.02 – $44.01
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
