What You’ll Do:
Position Description
Supervises personnel involved in preparation & distribution of informational & educational material reflecting ODOT activities. Speaks for & on behalf of the Director of Transportation & District 9 Deputy Director of ODOT. Plans & administers overall public information program for the district. Performs various program activities including developing, writing, preparing, typing using a computer & related software (e.g., Microsoft Word), proofing & editing news releases &/or public advisory group announcements, meeting minutes & speeches & issues to media &/or public advisory groups; oversees District operational activities (e.g., road closures, new highway openings, road maintenance activities, future maintenance projects, new highway construction) to ensure effective communication to local & state officials, general public & the media (e.g., print, radio, television, social media). Informs media, general public, advisory groups & statute-mandated taskforces or councils of agency policies & procedures regarding operational activities; coordinates public information meetings & hearings; develops & presents information & educational displays, programs, materials &/or speeches to media; performs layout work on publications, articles & newsletters. Gathers data & writes articles of interest concerning district employees or activities for publication in Department outlets (i.e., The Loop, The Transcript, etc.) &/or District internal newsletters & ODOT TV
Advises & consults with District 9 Deputy Director (DDD), Communications Deputy Director & agency Director & staff regarding public relations & methods of presentation to communicate favorable public relation; serves as resource person for information related to positive public presentation of agency programs, special events & activities; responds to written & telephone requests for speeches & presentations; delivers speeches & makes presentations. Responds either verbally or in writing to public information requests from general public, State & local officials, governmental agencies & media.
Organizes conferences & coordinates events with media; evaluates development, preparation & dissemination of public information. Ensures staff receives training in new procedures, skills & utilization of tools (e.g., personal computers & peripheral equipment, software packages). Maintains work-related records. Researches & responds to inquires & complaints using personal computer, furnishes information & explains programs & projects to motoring public, government officials & property owners. Performs other work-related duties as assigned (e.g., plans & organizes the district annual meeting in conjunction with the DDD; serves on committees (i.e., employee recognition, employee suggestion, & new hire feedback committees). Unclassified per 124.11(A)(9) ORC.
