The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, invites nominations and applications for Dean of the Zucker Family School of Education, a 12-month, tenured faculty position at the rank of Professor. The next dean will be a visionary education leader who will manage a talented faculty in its effort to become a national leader in educational leadership and entrepreneurship; in collaboration between education and business partners; and in exemplary teacher, administrator, and school counselor preparation. The Dean, who also serves as Professor and Certification Officer for Teacher Education, leads sixteen tenure-line and additional part-time faculty in offering 24 CACREP- and CAEP-accredited undergraduate and graduate programs.

The Citadel is located in historic Charleston, a city known for its unique charm and high quality of life. Founded in 1842, The Citadel is a coeducational, comprehensive, state-assisted, residential, four-year institution serving 2,200 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate and professional students and has been recognized as the #1 public Master’s-level University in the South for the last thirteen years, 2011-2024, according to US News & World Report. The primary undergraduate student body consists of members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and veteran students. The Citadel is dedicated to achieving excellence in the education and the development of principled leaders and has one of the highest four-year graduation rates of all public colleges in the state and in the nation. At the undergraduate level, the institution functions as a senior military college, providing a unique experience designed to support the academic achievement and character development that serve as the foundation for effective leadership in any domain. The Citadel also functions as a public regional university offering approximately 65 on-campus and online graduate degrees, certificates, selected undergraduate evening programs, and a joint doctoral program, in a traditional civilian environment through The Citadel Graduate College and the Evening Undergraduate Program.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate in Education or a closely-related field; significant leadership experience in supporting collaborative efforts with state and local institutions; recent CAEP accreditation experience; successful collegiate teaching and administrative experience; a record of excellence in teaching, research and service appropriate for appointment as a tenured full professor; and knowledge of the trends and issues challenging public education (K-20) at the national, state, and local levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least three years of public school experience and firsthand exposure to proven solutions that address challenging public education trends and issues are desirable, but neither is required.
