Job Description
Primary responsibilities include conducting research
and administrative duties associated with the Examining Blackness Research Team. The Postdoctoral Scholar will devote 12 person months to
this research project and will focus their work in three areas:
Research Design and
Implementation:
Collect ethnographic data from a subset of Tennessee postsecondary
institutions
Coordinate focus group interviews
Draw on critical and/or race-centric theoretical frameworks for
the design and enactment
of research studies, including but not limited to Critical Race Theory, Anti-Blackness,
BlackCrit, and/or
Afrocentricity
Work closely with other project researchers and faculty to implement research projects,
including data
collection and management, IRB submission and management, and preliminary analysis.
Review IRB to make sure we comply
and store data correctly
Support all protocol and instruments development, and aid in data collection, analysis,
and
dissemination endeavors
Research and Project Analysis and Dissemination:
Work with
other project researchers to share preliminary and final analyses of research
studies with project staff and stakeholders, university
affiliates, and district leaders, with
the goal of program adjustment/improvements
Work collaboratively with other
project researchers to present findings more widely via
location and national research presentations and
publications.
Administrative and Mentoring Expectations:
Collaborate across
research sites to plan meetings and professional development
Assist in booking meetings and travel for the GSU
site
Help to facilitate mentoring and research meetings with doctoral and
undergraduate
students.
Assist with disseminating information about the project via a website, social
media
platforms, listservs, newsletters, and biogs.
Engage in a tripartite mentorship endeavor focused on
academic/professional, social, and
personal development for the academy.
Minimum Qualifications
The
successful applicant will have a doctoral degree in education, research methods, Black/ African American/Ethnic studies, or a related field.
It is preferred that the applicant have expertise with critical qualitative research methods and demonstrate a record of research focusing
on Black students in STEM, broadly defined.
Applicants who demonstrate a deep commitment to equity and racial justice in their research
and
other scholarly activities are especially encouraged to apply.
