RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
*Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Hospital and exhibits a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the hospital while working within a comprehensive, multidisciplinary environment
1. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the delivery of nursing care to the infusion center patient.
2. Proficient in vascular access care, maintenance and management.
3. Safely prepares handles, administers and disposes of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and infused agents according to policy.
4. Performs designated nursing and other patient care activities according to established nursing policies and procedures.
5. Has current chemotherapy immunotherapy card. Attains knowledge and competency reflective of current standards of practice.
6. Interacts and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues.
7. Integrates ethical provisions in all areas of nursing practice.
8. Integrates research findings into nursing practice and collaborates with potential research opportunities
9. Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
10. Communicates information to others as appropriate to maintain effective patient flow.
11. Collaborates closely with the charge nurse and APN
ACCESS TO PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION
Computer system access for the Nursing Division is assigned based on criteria as specified in Policy # 08-113-0, and on the minimum necessary as described in this job description. Approval for level of access is given by the system administrator (for Nursing Division this is Nursing Informatics) or the department that has ownership of system/module. See computer system Access Control policy. .
QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
* Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
* Nurses with at least one year professional Infusion experience preferred.
* Communicates effectively.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
* Current Illinois Nursing Licensure
* Current BLS from American Heart Association
* Current Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Card preferred
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
* Committee membership as needed
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS
* Patients and their families and significant others, Division of Nursing Staff, Medical Staff and other hospital personnel.
ENVIRONMENT
* May be in an upright position and moving about most of the working time
* May lift heavy objects
* Use of computer
* Potential for exposure to chemotherapy, immunotherapy hormones, chemicals, airborne diseases, blood and bodily fluid.
* Risk of injury by violent patient
