Senior Manager, Global Indirect Procurement
Sun Chemical is seeking a Senior Manager, Global Indirect Procurement to join our corporate Procurement team based onsite from one of our core site locations. Target locations are Northlake, IL or Cincinnati, OH (may consider other Sun Chemical locations in the Midwest).
The Senior Manager, Global Indirect Procurement is the leader of the function for the company’s indirect buying and reports to the Chief Supply Chain Officer. The position is responsible for managing over $600M in indirect spend globally in over 50 countries, as well as managing a global team of 8-10 professionals and supporting a matrix organization with numerous other local buyers. This role has end-to-end source-to-purchase responsibility, including strategic sourcing, risk reduction, supplier collaboration and innovation. This is a highly visible position with regular interaction with the top company executives as well as critical suppliers. The company recently simplified its business organization, as a result of which, and as a strategic business decision, the company is creating a stand-alone indirect procurement organization. This position will have global indirect buying activities in areas such as energy, services and maintenance, and will have responsibility and decision rights to maximize buying synergies in these areas. The position regularly participates in business and functional leadership teams and represents the company externally in many forums. The position will also play a key role in the Sustainability strategy for the company, particularly in the area of energy transformation and sustainable production.
Duties & Responsibilities
Lead a Category Management transformation for the indirect procurement function, including the integration of legacy teams and alignment to the newly combined portfolio of businesses including development of the new indirect procurement team.
Develop and maintain best in class Sourcing capability in the entire cycle of category management from initial determination of requirements and specifications, to RFIs/RFPs, to negotiations and contract management, and supplier relationship management.
Assist in setting category strategies and effective negotiation strategies and tactics, including the determination of which indirect categories are managed globally / regionally / locally in the interest of maximizing value and business efficiencies.
Implement, maintain and enhance supplier relationship management programs with key suppliers, including metrics, performance goals and improvement initiatives.
Provide oversight of and assist in analysis of cost savings, spend data by category, site and supplier.
Participate in and help shape the company’s sustainability strategy as it relates to clean, renewable energy and other areas impacted by indirect spend.
Drive innovation through the deployment of automated or system generated tools, such as Ariba, Catalog management, SAP Preventive Maintenance, automated procure-to-pay tools, standard reporting tools, etc.
Consistently look to refine policies and processes, with the aim of introducing and propagating best practices across the organization, including the use of standardized purchasing channels, templates and processes.
Develop annual sourcing goals and objectives for cost, quality and service improvements, supplier management strategies, risk mitigation strategies that support the corporate strategy and objectives.
Design and implement comprehensive supplier management programs and processes, including continuous improvement plans and relationship management processes.
Oversee contract development and execution for critical global contracts and ensure ongoing contract management practices are established and followed.
Recommend efficiency improvements in procure-to-pay and sourcing processes
Actively grow talent and succession plans and lead a high performing function that delivers significant strategic value to the company. Attract, develop, reward, train and retain top talent through developmental opportunities, coaching, rewards, and recognition across the organization.
Education, Experience & Travel Expectations
Bachelor’s degree required with 15+ years of global operations experience, including 10+ years of procurement experience. 10+ years leadership experience is preferred in a global manufacturing organization.
Qualified candidates must possess sophisticated multi-cultural matrix management skills, must be experienced in complex contract negotiations and administration, and advanced supplier management, as well as experienced in successfully operating in a decentralized environment.
Qualified candidates must have specific experience managing energy spend for a multi-national company, in an environment in which sustainability is a strategic focus, and the impact of energy on sustainability is clearly demonstrated.
This will be a working leader role, and the ideal candidate will be able to lead but also be involved in the day to day data, negotiations, etc.
Travel to global manufacturing sites (25%+) is likely.
