We are looking for a customer-focused consultant who can take the complex world of ERISA and communicate it clearly and effectively to internal team members and customers. We are looking for a subject matter expert whose mission is to help customers establish and maintain compliant benefit plans for their employees. You will be a consultative contact for your internal stakeholders such as Plan Consultants, Sales and the Advisory team in support of their client facing roles and will have direct client consultation.

As an ERISA Consultant you are responsible for reviewing, interpreting and preparing ERISA governed Plan Documents for retirement and health & welfare plans. Working on a team, you will be supporting the document work for approximately 2,500 clients.
What you’ll bring to Sentinel:

Familiarity with a variety of retirement plan types and designs specifically 401(k), 403(b), profit sharing, non-qualified and defined benefit.
Knowledge of discrimination testing rules and Form 5500 filings.
A sincere interest in ERISA retirement and health & welfare plan knowledge including plan design options.
A passion for continuous learning of our industry including changes in ERISA regulations, employee benefits offerings and other related regulations.
What you’ll be responsible for:
Demonstrate and maintain in-depth knowledge of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code and related regulations concerning retirement plans and health and welfare plans.
Read and interpret retirement and health & welfare plan documents including Basic Plan Document, Adoption Agreement, Summary Plan Descriptions, amendments and supplemental policies.
Be a consultant to internal stakeholders to respond to questions concerning 401(k), 403(b), 457(b), non-qualified and health and welfare plans.
Provide expertise on plan design for retirement and health & welfare plans to help meet client’s business goals and objectives.
Provide consultation on advanced technical issues internally and externally including discrimination testing, controlled groups, mergers, acquisitions, and spin-offs.
Prepare plan documents and amendments utilizing Relius document software.
Demonstrate effective time management skills, with the ability to work independently, to organize and manage multiple priorities and ensure deadlines are met and client deliverables are of the highest quality.
Communicate with team members verbally and in writing to assist with responding to client inquiries.
Review and prepare periodic plan amendments and notices for Plan Sponsors.
Work on recurring and non-recurring compliance related projects including initial client contact, preparation of retainer letters and service agreements, actual project work, tracking, keeping your team lead updated on progress.
These projects include, but are not limited to, plan corrections using Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System (EPCRS) self-correction, Voluntary Compliance Program (VCP), Delinquent Filer Voluntary Correction (DFVC) for late 5500 filings, VFCP for late deferral deposits and other fiduciary issues, IRS, DOL and PBGC audits, plan document restatements, IRS Favorable Determination Letter submissions, health and welfare documents and service agreement issues.
Manage large-scale Document Team projects (i.e. IRS Restatements and amendments) and ad hoc projects to help streamline internal Document Team processes.
Work with limited supervision and escalate issues appropriately.
What you need to have:
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or related industry
ASPPA QKA or higher credential or commitment to obtain preferred
At least 5 years of experience within the ERISA benefits plan industry
Experience with plan documents
Experience with Relius administration and or document system preferred
A passion for problem solving and providing knowledge
Excellent Communication Skills – Being able to respond and exchange ideas clearly, tactfully and effectively through writing, speaking, and presentations; shares appropriate information to keep people informed; seen as approachable.
