The Portland State University College of
Education (COE) is the largest, most comprehensive, and most innovative school of education in the State of Oregon. It is a professional
learning community committed to engaging in individual and program assessment activities that lead to continuous program improvement. The
College’s distinctive equity-focused professional preparation programs are all nationally accredited. The COE’s educator
preparation programs are accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). The counselor education
programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). In addition, the early
childhood programs are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The College’s
interdisciplinary doctoral program enjoys a strong partnership with the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) and has been
recognized nationally for leading efforts to use improvement science as a tool for continuous improvement.
The COE’s programs,
policies, and practices advance and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion. Its programs also enjoy the distinction of being the most
ethnically and racially diverse in the state. Rise to Teach, a new program that builds on the legacy of the Portland Teacher Program (PTP)
and previous work that was done by many in the Black community, contributes to the development of BIPOC educators by offering future
teachers a tuition-free path to a bachelor’s degree, starting at Portland Community College and finishing at PSU. The COE is also home
to the Bilingual Teacher Pathways program, which won the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) Global Diversity
Award, and the American Indian Teacher Program, which provides full funding for successive cohorts of Native American students. Moreover,
the AACTE recognized PSU’s Secondary Dual Educator Program (SDEP) in the 2019 Research-to-Practice Spotlight Series, calling
