This is a new role that reports to the Chief Information and Digital Officer based in Newport Beach, California with a hybrid work mode.
The SVP Architecture, Engineering and Platforms owns the technology decisions, including core engineering, DevSecOps, emerging technology, and architecture, for Pacific Life’s technology portfolio. This position has the unique opportunity to both craft and execute the future state vision, while balancing technical and business value considerations. Successful candidates will have deep architecture, engineering and application development experience and will not be afraid of challenging technical constraints and procedures to achieve superior solutions that will result in positive business outcomes. This role provides untapped potential to be part of a large scale ‘business back’ technology strategy that will shape the future of the ecosystem in the industry.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished, innovative technology executive with a demonstrated track record of driving and delivering results with a strategic mindset. S/he will be seen as an expert as it relates to the technical components of the domains / products / journeys that the organization engages in.
This executive will be a seasoned technology leader and engineer with deep insight into the newest technologies and trends, who is familiar with production of Cloud / DevSecOps and who can make architectural decisions at a team, product, and program level.
S/he will have ample experience and be able to code and architect back and front-end solutions with multiple types or architectures and be able to lead in an Agile Development framework. As such, the successful candidate will understand and foster the relationships with Product Owners, Tech Leads, Agile delivery leads, Design Leads, and the rest of the technical team members, while managing technical priorities as they pertain to the technology’s roadmap and backlog.
Lastly, the new leader will have strong communication skills with the ability to align the organization on complex technical decisions, as well as the ability to attract the right digital talent into the organization. S/he will be an active coach and mentor whose goals are to grow and maximize the team’s potential and performance, being a high-energy and passionate individual who inspires and successfully engages teammates. The ideal candidate will be excited about trying new solutions and will embrace a culture of trust, free thought, and complete transparency among the team. HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Leading and Driving Technology
Lead the Engineering, Architecture, and Platform teams to design the overall technological architecture for the company’s product(s), and processes to ensure coherence across the IT landscape.
Serving as a senior technologist within the Information Technology Team, leading all engineering chapter teams, including DevSecOps, Platform, Emerging Technology and Architecture.
Guide hardware and software efficiencies while supporting existing and new business needs and improving sustainability.
Designing the overall technology architecture for the company’s product(s), with the help of the team.
Guiding product teams on technology strategy related to coding practices, continuous integration, automated deployments, platform scalability & security and related areas.
Identifying and removing technical impediments to the advancement of the organization.
Working with Product/Program Managers to align the roadmap with strengths and opportunities within the technical stack.
Constantly looking for better ways of solving technical problems and designing solutions, ensuring modular, scalable.
Providing the team a roadmap for implementing software engineering practices for higher code quality.
Sharing responsibility with the Divisional CIOs and Product Managers/Owners for building reusable and scalable technology components that address current needs as well as consider future architectural changes and designs.

THE EXPERIENCE YOU WILL BRING:
15+ years of experience in Technology engineering, architecture, design and software development for financial institutions – insurance experience relevant but not required.
15+ years management role in technology, preferably 5+ years in an executive/strategy role.
Recognized and respected leader whose name can help attract talent.
Demonstrates a high level of personal maturity, proven ability to build and sustain effective partnerships, and a style that balances collaboration with a front-line leadership based on experience, innovative thinking and team enablement.
Experience in building and managing cross-functional teams.
Experience in large-scale, multi-year transformation and capability building efforts.
Experience in digital transformations and effective digital capability building.
Ability to execute a strategy across a complex enterprise comprised of numerous divisions and functions.
Bachelors/Masters in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer/Data Science, IT, Analytics or related field (or equivalent experience)
Domain Experience
Seen as an expert within the technical components of the domains/products/platforms.
Seasoned technology leader with deep insight into newest technologies and trends and familiar with production of cloud/DevSecOps environments and make architectural decisions at a team and product level.

Base Pay Range:
The base pay range noted provides a basis to determine the appropriate offer dependent upon several factors including but not limited to geographic location, experience, skills, education and pay equity. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
$272,700.00 – $340,900.00 – $477,300.00
