Full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Music, Newberry College.
Newberry College has an opening for a
tenure track position, whose primary responsibility will be coordinating the Music Education curriculum and those students enrolled. Aside
from teaching music education courses, preferred candidates will be able to specialize in at least one other area: preference will be given
to those with choral or elementary backgrounds, although the ability to teach in an applied instrumental area may be considered. The
successful candidate will have a proven approach to music literacy and may be asked to teach portions of the ear training sequence.
Because the Music Education degree is its principal focus, the NASM-accredited Newberry College Department of Music has a strong track
record of producing excellent music educators.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
DMA or PhD preferred; at least one graduate degree in
music education strongly preferred. Minimum of five years teaching elementary or secondary music, choir, band, or orchestra. Demonstrated
commitment to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from diverse musical backgrounds. Demonstrated success in
teaching music literacy and ability to communicate that with future educators. Experience performing in multiple musical styles and
traditions. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and administration. Strong interpersonal,
written, and oral communication skills to effectively work with others from varied social, educational, and economic backgrounds. Excellent
organizational skills. Ability to work effectively without constant supervision, make appropriate decisions, and have good judgment.
