Position description
Under the supervision of a social worker who meets state required standards, provides psychotherapy, counseling, and other services in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The social worker may also coordinate patient discharge planning, complies with required standards for medical/legal responsibilities, and serves as a resource to other allied and administrative staff within the section of Social Work and the Department of Nursing.
This is a Clinical Social Work position in a fast-paced, Level 1 Emergency Department. Social Workers also cover the Midwest Admission and Transfer Center. Social Workers in the Emergency Department provide clinical services to all age populations. We prioritize mental health and chemical use evaluations, crisis interventions, traumas, social admission preventions and abuse/neglect reporting. We work closely with the multidisciplinary team to address a variety of patient needs.
Qualifications
An MSW degree is required from an accredited Masters of Social Work Program.
Prefer staff who support strong teamwork, communication, flexibility, and ability to manage a wide-variety of psychosocial needs. LGSW licensure is required, LICSW is also desirable
Additional qualifications
Must have an advanced knowledge of categories in mental illness, personality development, knowledge of the types of psychiatric treatment, and skills in conducting individual, group, and family therapy. Must have knowledge in adjustment to medical diagnosis and chronic disease. Strong human relation skills are needed to interact with patients, patient’s family members, consultants, residents, hospital personnel, community agencies, and other resources. Must also have psychosocial diagnostic skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form.
License or certification
Licensure by applicable state requirements. Minnesota: Licensure at the Licensed Graduate Social Work (LGSW) or Licensed Independent Social Work (LISW) level from the Minnesota Board of Social Work (MNBOSW) is required. LGSW/LISW personnel, following 4000 hours of clinically supervised practice are eligible to apply for licensure at the LICSW level, and must do so by 8000 hours. A condition of employment at the LGSW level shall be the ability to practice clinically through a MNBOSW approved Clinical Supervision Plan leading to LICSW attainment. Wisconsin: Certification at the Certified Advanced Practice (CAPSW) or Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW) level by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services is required. CAPSW personnel who have achieved two years of supervised social work practice, by a supervisor who has met board requirements, may apply for certification as a CISW. CAPSW or CISW personnel, following 3,000 hours of clinical social work practice including at least 1,000 hours of face to face contact supervised by a person meeting board requirements, may apply for licensure at the LCSW level. Valid driver’s license required for specific specialty areas.

This position requires the ability to be very flexible and work with the ED SW team to cover a variety of shifts including days, evenings and nights. Regular weekend and holiday coverage is required. Shift Differential is offered. Schedule is a combination of 12- and 8-hour shifts.
