Description: Why Mayo Clinic
Mayo Clinic offers a variety of employee benefits. For additional information please visit Mayo Clinic Benefits . Eligibility may vary.
The Registered Nurse (RN) in this dynamic multidisciplinary clinic collaborates daily with physicians, advanced practice providers, RNs and other allied health care staff members to provide care through a team approach for patients traveling from the region, across the nation, or internationally to Mayo Clinic Rochester. The GIH Pancreas Clinic cares for patients with all types of pancreatic disease including pancreatic cancer, chronic pancreatitis, and familial disorders affecting the pancreas.
In the GI Pancreas Clinic, the RN provides both direct care to patients utilizing face to face visits and indirect, non-visit care. Patient visits may include a review of patient health issues, medication review and patient education. Non-visit care and management of patients is performed primarily over the phone. In this capacity, RNs provide patient education, medication management, follow-up care, outcome management, phone triage and assessment of patient symptom-based inquiries. This role requires expert critical thinking, time management, multi-tasking, flexibility, and the ability to function autonomously in an unpredictable environment.
For new grad nurses: All newly graduated Registered Nurses with less than 12 months of practice experience, hired into a scheduled FTE Registered Nurse position on the Rochester campus of Mayo Clinic are automatically enrolled in the Nurse Residency Program . A separate application or enrollment process is not required. All nurses new to Mayo Clinic, regardless of experience, will receive an extensive orientation program.
The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role.
