Position description
The Accreditation/Regulatory Specialist works in conjunction with Mayo Clinic leaders, medical staff and allied health staff to facilitate education regarding emerging and market driven trends in healthcare accreditation and regulatory processes. Provides education and consultation regarding healthcare quality, and interpretation of regulations and accreditation standards, with an emphasis on hospital, critical access hospital, ambulatory, behavioral health, home care and disease specific care certification standards and/or regulations. Assists in facilitating an integrated organizational approach to assessing and meeting regulatory requirements and process improvements. Supports and facilitates coordination of regulatory surveys for the outpatient and inpatient practice.
This position supports the Mayo Clinic Accreditation Program, operating in four primary areas: Survey Management, Compliance Activities, Standards Interpretation, and Education & Communication. Under these areas the specialist conducts scheduled assessments, performs departmental visits (Tracers), and supports on-site survey activities.
They do this by meeting with stakeholders, managing/revising materials to support staff knowledge and understanding of the standards/regulations, conducting tours and interviews for data collection and analysis using software analytics. The Accreditation and Regulatory Specialist serves as a consultant to the clinical practice to help ensure activities are in compliance with Wisconsin and CMS regulations and also Joint Commission standards, periodically reporting to site leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. Three years leadership or project management experience. Ability to communicate and work successfully with other leaders, medical staff, and allied health staff; expertise in evaluation techniques, and ability to organize information from a variety of sources and communicate it in a meaningful way.
Additional qualifications
Master’s degree in a healthcare field preferred. Clinical background a plus. Good understanding of data management, experience in accreditation processes, quality improvement methodology, and facilitation skills. Accrediting and regulatory bodies: State of Minnesota, Center for Medicaid & Medicare Services, The Joint Commission, and others as identified.
