Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is the largest research hospital in the United States with an annual research budget of over one billion dollars. The mission of MGH Biostatistics is to engage in trans-disciplinary partnerships involving quantitative methods in public health and biomedicine. The Biostatistics team includes over 70 members (22 faculty) who are deeply embedded in collaborative research projects across over 25 Divisions and Departments at MGH and beyond including cancer, cardiology, general internal medicine, global health, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, pulmonary and critical care medicine, and surgery.
Under the direction of the Director of MGH Biostatistics, the Senior Manager of Finance will oversee department-wide financial planning, management, and accounting in MGH Biostatistics. Specific duties include:
Financial Oversight and Strategic Planning
• Provide fiscal planning and oversight of the MGH Biostatistics budget.
• Generate and provide monthly financial audits, reports and presentations to the MGH Biostatistics leadership team on budget status and projections.
• Work closely with the MGH Biostatistics leadership team to manage and assist with implementing all financial strategic planning efforts.
• Work closely with the Development Office on philanthropic initiatives. Set strategic priorities and prepare materials highlighting and promoting MGH Biostatistics.
• Proactively identify and address funding gaps, deficits, and surpluses. Identify, propose, and implement mechanisms of budget control and creative solutions to fiscal issues.
• Prepare budget forecasting and continually review current budget and spending to identify areas for cost savings and improved fiscal management.
• Oversee fiscal administration and prepare budgets and budget justifications for non-research administrative funds such as hospital cost center funds, Biostatistics Core fund, research sundry funds and philanthropy; ensure proposal compliance with hospital, sponsor, and other relevant policies and procedures.
• Conduct ongoing monitoring of non-research administrative fund statements, resolve accounting problems and errors including personnel and non-personnel expenses.
• Assist with financial decisions in faculty/staff recruitment, advancement, and promotion.
• Meet annually with each faculty member to review their current/projected funding portfolio.
• Project and plan faculty/staff salary allocations on internal and external funding sources. Job Requirements:
