The Admitting Department at MGH includes both Financial and Access Services, providing our patients access to world-renowned health care. Our department is passionate about helping others, aims to make a positive difference in our communities, and focuses on consistent improvement.
We are interested in hiring a full-time Patient Financial Assistance Representative/Financial Counselor to serve the global community with providing access to top-quality healthcare. As a PFS Counselor, you will be responsible for ensuring patients are appropriately financially covered for their medical needs. Financial Assistance Representatives are an essential component of the healthcare revenue cycle, working with patients, clinicians, insurance companies, and healthcare administration to ensure patients are financially cleared to have medical and surgical services. Financial Aid Representatives have a direct impact on patients’ wellbeing by providing guidance and facilitating access to vital financial programs and services. They help to analyze a patient’s financial status then provide suggestions for how the patient can cover their healthcare costs. Successful employees have excellent prioritization skills, possess strong verbal and written communication skills, and thrive in a demanding atmosphere.
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Competencies required:
• Become a public benefits subject matter expert and remain up to date with the latest changes under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and within the Massachusetts Medicaid system
• Must be willing to become a Certified Application Counselor (CAC)
• Able to provide superb customer service while building and maintaining positive working relationships
• Must have a positive attitude towards working independently and within a team environment and always take the initiative to help others
Qualifications:
High school diploma required.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent healthcare experience preferred
• Prior experience in a customer service role, Epic experience a plus
