Responsibilities encompass training, orienting, directing Environmental Services personnel and ensuring that the department and hospital policies, procedures and standards are met. Establishes and maintains housekeeping schedules and assigns employees to areas for various housekeeping duties; conducts comprehensive inspections to check the completion of work assignments of 4-8 employees; ensures that the assignments are appropriately staffed and that the employees have adequate supplies and equipment for completion of assignments. Reports problems, concerns and recommendations to the Area Manager / Department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.
Participates in interviewing, hiring, training and orientation of assigned employees.
Assigns duties and supervises the performance of 4 – 8 employees. Inspects the work of his/her subordinate group, documents quality and evaluates performance based on results of quality inspections. Makes recommendations on follow-up training, disciplinary action, and terminations.
Assures that assignments are appropriately staffed and that adequate supplies and equipment are available for completion of assignments.
Conducts and documents monthly staff meetings; attends departmental/intradepartmental meetings as required.
Coordinates activities/assignments with other departments to complete assigned projects.
Assures that medical waste / HIPAA-sensitive materials is disposed of according to established regulations.
Participate in any/all emergency response drills, such as mass casualty plans, Hazmat, Code Pink etc…
Performs any or all Environmental Services functions as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma preferred
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Basic computer skills
Two years previous housekeeping experience
Driver’s License Required
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: (
Must possess strong interpersonal / customer service skills
Must possess strong leadership skills
Physical skills required: standing, walking or lifting a majority of shift. Physical effort with medium weight equipment or supplies (up to 60 pounds).
Ability to work under pressure and under minimal supervision
Ability to interact with professional staff, general staff and patients
Ability to operate simple mechanical devices such as rotos, vacuums, etc
Ability to learn and work with software programs ( Kronos, Peoplesoft, MS Outlook, Word, excel )
Ability to comprehend basic regulatory codes and accreditation standards ( DPH, JCAHO, OSHA etc. )
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, blood, body waste and contaminated waste.
Possibility of cuts, needle punctures and strains.
Occasional exposure to caustic chemicals and hazards which may cause relatively serious injury or illness, such as electrical shocks, stains, T.B., etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
4 – 8 FTE’s
