Mass General Danvers
Reporting to the MGH and Salem Hospital (SH) executive leaders, the Executive Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care (ACC) in Danvers, Massachusetts. The ambulatory care center (ACC) is a freestanding 200 k square foot facility providing state-of-the-art outpatient care efficiently in a patient-friendly, convenient community environment. It includes a cancer center (including infusion and radiation oncology services), an eight OR ambulatory surgery center, imaging services, non-invasive cardiac testing, pre-admission testing, and a laboratory and pharmacy to service the needs of the other clinical services in the building.
The Executive Director also oversees quality and safety, patient experience and infection control standards for the adjacent medical office building.
The Executive Director is responsible for assuring that the hospital clinical programs in the ACC adhere to the quality and safety standards of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and MGB, Salem Hospital ( SH) as the licensees of the facility, provides patient-centered care, functions efficiently, meets budget targets and meets the goals of expanding the market reach of the MGH and SH in the Northern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire markets.
The Executive Director hires and supervises a team comprised of the administrative and clinical managers/directors of the various clinical programs within the ACC (excepting the Danvers OSC) and the MGPO physician practices in the Danvers medical office building adjacent to the ACC. The Executive Director also functions as a liaison among the physician groups in the ACC to foster collaboration and to support accomplishment of the quality incentive performance targets for all clinical programs. The executive director leads and directs all of the clinical operations and works collaboratively with all MGH, SH service line leaders to do this work and achieve ambulatory performance and financial targets.
Mass General Waltham
The executive director oversees the overall building services, daily operations, pharmacy and the physician practices of the 283k square foot campus of Mass General Waltham, patient experience, infection control and quality, safety standards of practice while the individual services report operationally and financially through their respective clinical departments. The executive director fosters a collaborative high functioning work environment for all staff/departments. Functions as primary on site leader for all building support services including building management, parking, police and security, environmental services, materials management, IT, buildings and grounds, etc. Also, may serve as senior leader, point person for capital expansion projects.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mass General Danvers
‘ Directs the overall daily operations of the facility and MGPO physician practices, ensuring compliance with JCAHO, local, state and federal regulations, accreditation and licensure requirements.
‘ Assures that the ACC complies with all the standards, policies and procedures of the licensee hospitals.
‘ Establishes and implements short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement.
‘ Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives.
‘ Reports on administrative aspects of operations to senior hospital administration and governing board.
‘ Appropriately represents the facility internally and externally and fosters positive community relations and image, while promoting the center as a community resource.
‘ Develops and fosters effective collaboration between clinical departments and medical staff leadership within the ACC to ensure an integrated approach to providing services.
‘ Serves as the coordinating force that aligns the resources of the center to achieve objectives on time and within budget.
‘ Responsible for making operation a well-run, integrated multi-discipline practice that offers accessibility, improved throughput, and information, all delivered within a culture of service and care that eases the anxiety associated with health care service, drives increased market share and financial return and promotes improved outcomes within the ambulatory environment.
‘ Assures ready access to the services of the ACC.
‘ Works with the administrative and medical directors of the clinical programs to establish performance targets and measures, including efficiency targets, patient satisfaction targets, service metrics
‘ Designs and provides management reports to support providers/managers in coding, appointment utilization, next appointment availability, capacity analysis, staffing ratios, quality management, and other critical data.
‘ Develops and monitors systems and procedures to ensure timely response to complaints
‘ In collaboration with MGH/SH nursing, finance and information services, implements practice-wide utilization of centralized services such as competency review, registration/billing services, infection control, etc. to promote enhanced quality, revenue collections and information flow.
‘ Identifies and leverages ‘best practice’ principles together with clinical department managers and senior service line leaders.
‘ Keeps abreast of changes in the health care industry, organizational trends, and major technological improvements in medical practice.
‘ Performs other job- related duties as assigned.
‘ Works with the MGB marketing department to develop and implement marketing plans for the ACC.
Building Operations
‘ Responsible for overseeing all building operations including: hours of operation, way finding, access, parking, phones, IS systems, security, etc.
‘ Oversees the work of contractors and vendors hired to provide maintenance and other non-clinical support services in the ACC. Leads capital projects.
Personnel Management
‘ Hires, supervises and manages the clinical program directors, managers, collaborating with the program medical directors.
‘ Serves as a professional role model; develops and mentors leadership staff
‘ Continually monitors and enhances the work culture in order to attract and retain the staff talent necessary to provide the highest quality of patient care possible.
Nursing Leadership
• 24-hour/7-day accountability for the supervision of all registered nurses and other healthcare providers who deliver nursing care
• Responsible for:
o recruitment and retention of staff
o Performance appraisals
o Professional development
• Involved in budget formulation process
• Monitors quality outcomes and collaborates with others to develop performance improvement plans
• Helps plan for, organizes and leads the delivery of nursing care for a designated patient care area(s).
• Budget Development and Financial Management
o Develops and manages annual operating budgets and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
o Is accountable to the licensee hospital CFOs for the financial performance of the ACC.
Mass General Waltham

‘ Required: Six to eight years progressive experience in health care management, including an executive position in an ambulatory setting
‘ Required: Healthcare industry experience
‘ Required: Lead role in business process improvement activity and system integration for ambulatory setting
‘ Preferred: Lead roles in at least 2 ambulatory project implementations
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Master’s degree in healthcare or business management. Masters in a health-related field such as Nursing may be considered.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATION and/or REGISTRATION REQUIRED .
RN preferred, not required.

Direct oversight of staff and management personnel and indirect oversight of all operations and staff.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for the Danvers Center. Make fiscally responsible recommendations and decisions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal office conditions. Work is performed in all areas of the Center and travel is required to sites off-campus. The ability to move through a wide range of environments throughout the Center is required. Independent transportation to locations that may not be served by public transportation is necessary.
