Position: RN – Critical Care Transport – Champaign
Location: Arrowsmith
The Critical Care Transport Nurse (CCTRN) provides high quality nursing care including triage, assessment and treatment utilizing the policies and protocols within the scope of practice as directed by the Critical Care Transport Program Medical Director. The CCTRN, in collaboration with their partner, will assess the nature and extent of illness and injury to establish and prioritize care needed for a safe transport to an appropriate facility.
The CCTRN will be qualified to provide care for patients across the life span. The CCTRN will be responsible the ensuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum. The CCTRN will also be responsible for public relations activities in the region, education of regional providers, quality review of transports, case study reviews, among other PR and quality activities.
When not on flights, the CCTRN will “task” within the hospital or other affiliated hospital facilities, as needed. This position requires work on both air and ground ambulances during assigned shifts.
• Delivers patient care as directed by Patient Care Guidelines, or online medical direction
• Complies with safety standards to assure safety of self, other medical personnel, patient and equipment
• Participates in patient and referring institution follow up
• Participates in planned outreach marketing and education activities
• Attends pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and completes necessary documentation
• Assists in pre-mission liftoff checklist and assists pilot as requested (i.e., radio, navigational and visual observation activities)
• Complies with safety standards to assure safety of self, other medical personnel, patient and equipment
• Serves as flight resource to neonatal/obstetric personnel when transporting specialty team and patient
• Acts as preceptor and/or participates in orientation of new employees and students as assigned
• Conducts safety briefings as necessary
• Communicates with appropriate medical personnel regarding patient condition, history, treatments, response to treatments and other relevant information
• Maintains safety, security, cleanliness and appearance of the aircraft, equipment and supplies including controlled substances and patient belongings
• Ability to work in confined mobile spaces
• Participates in departmental quality improvement activities
• Completes reports that are accurate and legible while ensuring that medical, billing and administrative information is complete
• Becomes knowledgeable in all aspects of flight physiology, flight safety procedures, ground handling, emergency and non-emergent ambulance operations, navigation and radio or telephonic communication
• Will remain within the safety standard of 235 pounds or less (235 pounds will include flight suit, boots, helmet and coat)
• Adheres to Carle Behavior Standards
• Promotes Critical Care Transport programs throughout Carle Health
• Ability to work in both air and ground transport vehicles
