Under the supervision of the Practice Manager, the dental assistant will assist in performing four-handed chair side dentistry; take radiographs and intra oral images; obtain blood pressure readings, take and pour up impressions; clean up and set up rooms for dental procedures; prepare and sterilize dental instruments; establish appropriate rapport with patients.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Escort and prepare patients for dental treatment; pull up patients’ electronic chart in the operatories and update appropriate information. Arrange dental instruments and materials on chair side tray according to procedure to be performed.
Assist patients with any questions regarding dental treatment and provide education materials as needed.
Under the direction of Dentist, assist in performing four-handed chair side dentistry; perform certain intra-oral procedures such as, cement and remove temporary crowns and bridges, removing sutures, irrigation and taking impressions.
Prepare restorative materials and dental cement; constructs models of teeth and mouth; pour, trim, mount and polish models of plastic or plaster impressions.
Schedule necessary follow up appointments and provide treatment planning information as needed.
Clean instruments using autoclaves or chemical disinfectants to maintain accepted standards of asepsis.
Perform clerical duties as required such as: answering telephone calls, scheduling appointments, maintaining office files, entering patient treatment and charges, providing treatment planning information, and assuring daily that all charts and x-rays are ready for patients.
Assist the Practice Manager in maintaining proper inventory levels and providing lists of supplies to be ordered. Keep operatories supplied and clean. Keep all other work areas (lab, x-ray room, supply closets) neat and clean.
Must comply with all hospital and office policies, including those involving patient privacy/confidentiality and safety.SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

§ Ability to conduct a brief oral exam and take appropriate x-rays.
§ Must have basic computer efficiencies and the ability to learn software systems
§ Ability to take impressions, bite registrations and fabricate models for specific procedures.
§ Knowledge of Standard Precautions
§ Knowledge of Dental Radiology
§ Knowledge of head and neck anatomy & physiology
§ Knowledge of aseptic techniques
§ Knowledge of chair-side assisting
