LinkedIn’s Data Center Engineering is a global team working together to ensure the data center stays online and healthy. The Data Center Engineer will provide solution-engineering support for all systems in our Data Centers and PoP’s globally. Solutions will be developed in a collaborative working group including representatives from Storage, Networking, Systems, and Application developers. They will collaboratively interoperate within a high performing team while partnering with key stakeholders in business and technology areas across the company. They will lead and participate on large projects as well as understand and resolve complex issues that put the team’s objectives at risk. This role has tremendous impact and great potential for growth.
This role will be based in Ashburn, VA.
This role, due to the nature of work being completed or the equipment used on site, requires in-office presence on a full-time basis. This helps to ensure you are set up for success based on the job responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
• Hardware installation, cabling, and network/server device configuration in production and staging environments (Unix/Linux servers, network, and storage devices).
• Partner with the deployment site lead on all aspects of hardware installation for your site. Become the subject matter expert on all upcoming hardware and network installations.
• Manage relations and coordinate with DC Construction, managed services DC team, & 3rd party(ies) that install the hardware. Set goals, standards, SLAs, as well as QC the work of our installation partners.
• Maintain and enforce proper handling and accounting of high value assets and devices. Demonstrate a positive chain of custody, disposal, and documentation techniques.
• Build cross-functional relationships and have the ability to influence policies & procedures to improve regional/global data center operations.
• Work with the capacity team through the hardware deployment process and maintain a report to show what has been recently installed, currently in-flight, and plans for the next quarter
• Develop and maintain data center installation workflow processes, automation roadmaps, quality control program, and documentation for tools that facilitate deployment, maintenance/decommissioning of server hardware.
• Improve global standards for processes at scale. Provide cross data center support and identify potentially larger issues
• Operate, troubleshoot, and suggest improvements for internal tools such as autobuild and network configuration.
• Act as the first escalation point for our managed service personnel as it relates to build status and priority setting.
• Demonstrate proper data center security, safety, and maintenance techniques.
• Contribute to the sku building and maintenance process.
Basic Qualifications:
• BA/BS Degree in technical field or equivalent practical experience
• 1+ years of experience deploying and supporting server and network devices in a 24/7 production data center environment
• 1+ years of experience supporting enterprise-class computer & network systems, and data center infrastructure
• Experience with structured cabling, optic types, and cabling standards
• Experience with structured cabling installation
Preferred Qualifications:
• 3+ years in data center design and/or installation
• 3+ years in design of structured cabling solutions
• Bicsi Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD)
• Certified Data Center Design Professional (CDCDP)
• Experience working in Unix/Linux environment.
• Experience with network troubleshooting
• Experience with project management including organizational, verbal, written, and analytical skills
• Experience in large organization and interdependent team dynamics
• Experience scripting in BASH and/or Python

The pay range for this role is $85,000 to $140,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
