Job Description:
To assist the Assistant Director of Transportation & Parking Services (AD of DTPS) with planning,
administering, coordinating, and implementing an efficient shuttle and fleet program for the University.
Acts as a support to provide backup as an additional driver when needed.
Position Hourly Range: $27.00 – $29.00
Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate’s qualifications are determined to be
above the minimum requirements of the position description.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serve as a primary customer service contact for the Mount community within the Transportation
Department.
2. Plan, coordinate, and oversee the routing, scheduling, and daily shuttle services.
3. Ensure drivers are driving the proper routes while achieving the scheduled pick-up times while
remaining on schedule.
4. Monitor two-way radios for shuttle problems, lateness, and accidents.
5. Communicate effectively with all required stakeholders regarding operation emergencies.
6. Plan the effective and efficient development of shuttle routes; monitors routes daily and makes
necessary adjustments for overloads, lateness, and related problems.
7. Oversee driver assignments, field trips, and special events following established guidelines; coordinates and arranges driver
overtime and time off and will arrange additional temporary drivers as necessary.
8. Communicate with the Mount Community and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues,
concerns, and questions regarding shuttle services and special accommodations for students.
9. Receive and respond to inquiries concerning routing and other transportation questions; continuously surveys the existing shuttle
program for safety, service costs, and area in need of improvement; advises the AD of DTPS of needs involving safety and matters.
10. Process transportation & parking reservations in partnership with Campus Safety.
11. Compile data and provide data reports on shuttle ridership, trends, and effectiveness of various transportation programs, including
parking counts.
12. Manage university mobile transit app, GPS Dash Cams, onboard Wi-Fi, and other tech equipment in partnership with contracted
programmers.
13. Maintain department websites, apps, physical signs, message boards, and social media.
14. Maintain compliance and personnel records and files for university employees, shuttle program, and university vehicles such as
CDL license and medical certificates, CA DMV registration renewal notices, maintenance records, etc.
15. Prepare and maintain various records and reports related to routing, schedules, accidents and other transportation services, shuttle
records, fuel use, and vehicle inspection records.
16. Confer with mechanic personnel regarding repairs and preventative maintenance of shuttles and other vehicles; monitor the status
of repairs; inform the AD of the need for additional drivers and equipment.
17. Answer phones and manage email communications for departmental emails.
18. Answer inquiries from faculty, staff, or students about shuttle schedules, reservations, and transportation requests. At times
assistance may be needed with parking services and permits.
19. Represent the Transportation Department at on-campus promotional events, informational meetings, forums, etc.
20. Operate access control systems to authorize university identification cards for parking structures and other automated functions.
21. Attend meetings and workshops to maintain current knowledge of and assist in implementing safety and transportation codes,
regulations, laws, and related matters.
22. Receive and respond to emergency calls after hours and on weekends.
23. Develop and champion the University’s public transit awareness program in partnership with the Assistant Director of Transportation
and Parking Services and Marketing and Communications team.
24. Assist the Assistant Director of Transportation and Parking Services in implementing safe driver and recognition programs by
preparing materials, presentations, and scheduling meetings.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work may be assigned at either Chalon or Doheny Campus.
2. Train staff in following procedures and performing driver duties.
3. Work with designated insurance specialists and government agencies.
4. Occasional evenings and weekends, usually with notice.
5. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the transportation needs of a diverse community.
Basic principles of supervision; and ability to communicate effectively with the Mount community.
Knowledge of software applications, including proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and advanced Excel.
Knowledge of in-house systems provided while on the job.
Familiarity with scheduling systems, state requirements, and related compliance mandates.
Familiarity with marketing programs and group presentations.
Abilities and Skills:
Willingness and ability to work in an environment involving exposure to some cleaning agents/chemicals.
Effectively organize, prioritize and handle multiple tasks to meet established deadline.
Must be flexible as well as detail and team oriented.
Must exercise sound judgment and make decisive and accurate decisions appropriate to the situation at hand.
Must have strong organization and prioritization, oral/written communication, interpersonal and project management skills.
Bi-lingual Spanish/English is a plus.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Must have experience working and supervising a shuttle program with Class B drivers.
Must have experience with DOT compliance concerning CHP inspections.
Must have 2 years or more of transportation supervisory experience.
Must have a clean 3-year driving record.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid Class “B” endorsement “P” California driver’s license.
Contingent on completion of a satisfactory driving records check and ongoing participation in the DMV Pull Program (driving record
audits).
Other Requirements:
A background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is required.
