Position Summary
The Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Student Teaching and Placement is a 10-month faculty position in the School of Education reporting to the Dean. The Director works with university faculty and staff, and school personnel, to carry out this office’s responsibilities.Specific responsibilities include: ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES – Develop and maintain positive university-school partnerships.- Conduct site visits during the semester at participating schools with students, cooperating teachers, supervisors, and principals.- Verify teacher-candidates’ eligibility for student teaching and licensure, with report to the School of Education.- Collect assessment/accreditation data from student teaching and field experiences, and report to the School of Education.- Collaborate with faculty and staff to address student concerns or appeals related to student teaching and field experiences.- Award Professional Growth Points (PGPs) in accordance with Indiana Department of Education policy for cooperating teachers that worked with pre-service teachers in field experiences and student teaching.- Collaborate with faculty/staff to maintain a database on participating teachers to ensure accurate documentation of placements and compensation for supervision.- Verify completion of background checks and liability insurance with course instructors each semester.- Develop and maintain an electronic database of forms related to student teaching and field experiences to be shared with university faculty, supervisors, staff, students, and K-12 school personnel.- Maintain content related to student teaching and field experiences on the School of Education website.- Serve as the university liaison to the State Department of Education on matters related to field experience and student-teaching policies and practices. STUDENT TEACHING – Manage the student teaching application process.- Communicate deadlines, requirements, and procedures related to student teaching to faculty, staff, and students.- Collaborate with K-12 school personnel to recruit and secure student teaching placements.- Recruit and recommend supervisors and cooperating teachers.- Evaluate the effectiveness of supervisors.- Receive feedback from supervisors and cooperating teachers and make recommendations to faculty.- Counsel and mediate with student teachers, supervisors, cooperating teachers regarding issues that arise during student teaching.- Submit final grades for student teachers to Registrar based on formal evaluations and recommendations from supervisors. FIELD EXPERIENCES – Collaborate with K-12 school personnel and university faculty staff to coordinate field experience placements.- Communicate deadlines, requirements, and procedures related to field experiences to faculty, staff, students, and school personnel.- Provide training for field course instructors/supervisors and cooperating teachers.- Oversee all clinical field experiences (pre-student teaching) each semester.- Collaborate with field course instructors/supervisors and faculty to make improvements to field experiences.- Recruit and recommend field instructors/supervisors for hire/retention to the Dean.TEACHING- Teach an equivalent of four 3-credit hour courses each academic year with two being fulfilled by student teaching requirements each Fall/Spring.- Advise students in the Teacher Education Program- Coordinate with faculty to ensure that syllabi are updated for student teaching and field courses.- Develop and maintain Canvas course sites for all sections of student teaching and field experiences.

Basic Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS– Master’s Degree in an education-related field- Standard Indiana or Illinois Teaching License- A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience- Valid Driver’s LicensePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS– Teaching Administrative License- Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultural groups, especially in urban environments.- Demonstrated experience supervising and/pr mentoring K-12 teachers.- Demonstrated experience supervising student teachers.- Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills.- Experience collaborating in partnerships with university faculty, schools, and communities.- Strong technology and computer skills, including web-based applications, online course management, and Microsoft Office.
