Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Content and Communications Manager plays a key role in supporting and developing the integrated communication strategy that reflects the mission and priorities of the The Institute of Politics (IOP) at the Harvard Kennedy School.
The IOP has a proud history as the first institution of its kind with a mission to inspire students, particularly undergraduates, to become leaders in politics and public service. Established in 1966 as a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy, the IOP seeks to bring students together with academics, politicians, activists, and policymakers through nonpartisan programming to inspire them toward politics and public service.
Position Description
The Content and Communications Manager is responsible for drafting and publishing original content that supports the IOP’s mission and broader communication strategy. In addition to written content, this includes visual graphics, video products, regular e-mail newsletters, maintaining an active social media presence on all IOP accounts, assist the Director of Communications with media engagement, and other communications projects as needed. The Content and Communications Manager will update and maintain the editorial calendar to reflect IOP programming (Fellows, Forums, conferences, etc.), students, and additional priorities of the IOP. In addition, the Content and Communications Manager will work with the Communications Director to oversee the IOP’s email program and newsletter to engage key IOP stakeholders; students, alumni, administrators, faculty, as well as external audiences.
The Content and Communications Manager is expected to work collaboratively with IOP team members, students, and our Harvard University and Kennedy School colleagues. In this capacity, the Content and Communications Manager is expected to assist with internal Harvard University communication channels, including Harvard Kennedy School intranet and calendar, the Harvard Gazette, and various university-based listservs.
Finally, the Content and Communications Manager will work with the Communications Director to support additional communication assets such as talking points, principal briefing docs, press releases and additional assets for coordinated press rollouts, etc.

This is a hybrid position based on our campus in Cambridge, MA. As a campus-based institution, we place a high value on the in-person experience, cross-team collaboration, and strong community building in order to create a vibrant campus for our students, faculty, staff, and research fellows. The position is required to work in-person on campus a minimum of 5 days per week during the academic year. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
Salary Range: $69,404 – $113,558
Note: Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity.
