Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe’s growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms.
Ginkgo is continuously crossing new frontiers of biological engineering and we have a record of delivering what was, until recently, thought impossible. Now, our expansion into mammalian cell engineering promises to push our boundaries even further, and so we’re looking for pioneering engineers to make Ginkgo’s new mammalian cell foundry a success.
We’re searching for a Senior Research Associate to execute experiments with the goal of developing novel gene editing tools in mammalian cells. In this role, you will bring your fluency with molecular biology techniques and mammalian cell culture to help execute experiments with the goals of discovering and optimizing novel gene editor modalities for gene therapy applications. You will put your organizational and communication muscles to work every day as you work closely with teams across Ginkgo. Internal Title is a Mammalian Engineer 3
Responsibilities:
- Support senior scientists and engineers in advancing Mammalian Foundry projects by executing high-throughput screening and cell engineering experiments
- Work with fellow Ginkgo engineers to integrate screens into Ginkgo’s automation and software platforms
- Attend, participate in, and present results at cross-functional team meetings
- Generate, analyze, and record high-quality data using Ginkgo LIMS, documentation, and database tools
- Maintain laboratory records, and contribute to laboratory organization and maintenance
Minimum Requirements:
- BS/MS in a STEM field and 4+ years hands-on laboratory experience post-bachelor’s degree, preferably in an industrial setting OR a PhD in a STEM field with 0-3 years of experience
- Fluency in CRISPR and recombinase-based gene editing tools and their applications in mammalian cells
- Exposure to mammalian synthetic biology, including library-based approaches and mammalian construct design
- Familiarity with NGS-based validation of gene editing experiments
- Strong organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Comfort in a fast-paced environment and ability to adjust workload based on changing priorities, coupled with a demonstrated eagerness to learn new things
Preferred Capabilities and Experience:
- Familiarity with laboratory automation
- Familiarity with data analysis platforms such as Python, R, and/or JMP
- Experience with cell therapy or gene therapy development
