The Opportunity
Sr Systems Engineer ( Mechatronics )
Our Actuation Division in Chanhassen, MN is looking for a Sr Systems Engineer to join their Ground & Naval Defense group. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be part of a team developing ruggedized actuation products for various defense applications. As the Sr Systems Engineer, you will lead the electrical aspects in the complete product design and development life cycle to meet the customer’s system requirements.

Your Challenge:
Review customer Interface Control Documentation (ICD)
Participate in customer meetings to understand the system and review customer needs
Understand application performance requirements
Determine all necessary hardware to meet system level requirements and meeting robust military environments
Walk through design performance and expectations at customer design reviews
Support laboratory testing of prototype builds
Design and specify all necessary components to support laboratory testing of prototype designs
Layout and wire portable control enclosures for lab use
Support engineering staff needs for offsite third-party qualification testing
Create portable control enclosures
Verify necessary data acquisition requirements to capture necessary system level performance
Implement control systems for performing factory acceptance testing of customer units
Program drives with closed loop feedback to verify actuator performance
Develop intuitive automation programs to assist production with product acceptance testing
Ability to work with multiple software environments depending on application needs
Having a good mechanical aptitude is preferred
Develop and maintain documentation
Create and maintain customer interface control drawings
Maintain wiring documentation for control enclosures and test setups
Ability to create produces for production personnel to perform product testing
Work with the customer to walk through start up support
Be able to remote troubleshoot customer questions and issues as they arise
Support potential travel to support customer integration and start up
Assist the sales team with upfront engineering support of customer requirements

Your Challenge:
Due to the nature of work performed in this role, incumbents must be a US Citizen.
BS in Mechanical, Electrical or related engineering discipline.
Proficient in 3D modeling and drafting standards.
Ability to design and layout custom electrical enclosures.
Ability to g enerate multiple procedures (encoder alignment, factory acceptance test support) .
Programming Techniques: PLC knowledge.
Previous automation experience highly desired.
Knowledge of military standards a bonus (ex. MIL-S-167, MIL-STD-810, MIL-S-901, MIL-STD-461).
Experience setting up, tuning and optimizing servo motor performance desired.
