Location: Greencastle, IN
Open Date: Dec 19, 2023
Description
The Department of Education Studies at DePauw University invites applications for a Tenure Track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2024. A terminal degree in Education Studies, Curriculum Studies, or a closely related field is required; ABD will be considered. A commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal-arts setting and evidence of effective and inclusive teaching are essential. The department specifically seeks candidates to teach Developmental Theories, Foundations of Education, Education Research, and elective courses in Curriculum Studies. Teaching assignment is 6 courses per year, and funding is available for professional development and research with undergraduate students.
The Education Studies program at DePauw is a vibrant program rooted in the concepts of the critical educator, transformative intellectual and public pedagogue. The department conceives of the teaching, learning and curriculum space very broadly (museums, parks, cities, homes, forests, media, prisons, etc.), exploring the formal and informal pedagogies embedded in and elaborated through these contexts. Ideal candidates for this position will enrich DePauw with scholarship that examines official and hidden curricula in schools and society, challenges dominant narratives of development and intelligence, and analyzes the relationship between power, epistemology, and consciousness in teaching, learning, and curriculum. Successful candidates must have experience in P-12 (preschool-12th grade) schools or related educational spaces and the capacity to mentor undergraduates in teaching, learning, and pedagogical work with P-12 aged students. The preferred candidate will amplify connections with local educational entities, engage students in practical and field experience, and approach their work with an informed and lived commitment to critical inquiry, justice, diversity, equity, belonging and inclusion.
